it's just too distracting, so I scroll past it. I am sure I am not the only one.
You probably don't care that members aren't reading your post because of it.
But I don't see the point of it. It isn't cute, it isn't fun, it's just annoying.

(60,010 posts)Apparently Ad Blocker has now allowed 'some" ads. So I removed it.
Ad Guard plays well with Firefox/Linux, and it allows you "draw" a box around all the content you want removed, then preview the page before it removes the whatever. LOVE that option.

(26,549 posts)A very long-term DUer posted a quote from an article about people refusing to vote for Clinton in the general. Made no comments of his own. Was banned for it.
Other posters who explicitly say they will not vote for the Democrat using their own words are not banned. Heck, some people can make a sockpuppet to get around their "time out", get caught by the admins, and not be banned.
The "flyswatter" versions were created by people who support a different candidate in order to grave dance.
So yeah. You're going to see bugs. And your annoyance at the bugs really doesn't matter.

Seriously, it makes all of you look very foolish. If your group of bug people like the bug, great.
If the swatter, Raid can people like their swatters, yeehaw.
But no one else gives a good goddamn, and in fact - just think it's perfectly puerile.
All you've done is cause most of DU to turn off the sig lines. So all you bug people have the sig lines all to yourselves now.
Which is pretty damn funny.
jeff47
(26,549 posts)Hence your post about you and how you don't like it. While pretending to speak for everyone, of course.
cwydro
(51,308 posts)I didn't say I didn't like it. I said it was stupid and juvenile, which it is.
Of course, I don't speak for everyone, but I have heard from many who feel the same.
I don't have enough energy to spare for liking or not liking a silly gif on a message board; it's just amazing to me how much energy all you bug people (on both sides) put into your wee bug sigs.
I just imagine both sides...crouched over their computers late into the night...looking desperately for that one sig line, that one can of raid, that one immortal bug that will show the other side once and for all - HA, OUR side of the bug people has TRIUMPHED.
Take that you can of raid people! Take that you crawling bug people!
It's actually hilarious. Tiresome, but hilarious.
Bubzer
(4,211 posts)"I didn't say I didn't like it. I said it was stupid and juvenile" - Saying something is stupid and juvenile is an implied "I don't like it".
"I don't have enough energy to spare for liking or not liking a silly gif on a message board" - This might have been more sincere had you not spared the energy to explaining how you thought it was stupid and juvenile.
I agree, it can be annoying to watch people bicker back and forth... especially when not knowing the particulars. In this case though, for me at least, it's a non issue.

I had Bug-Boy on ignore for the better part of two years, I think, and it was one of my best Ignores. But it does make me wonder what posters like him are doing at Democratic Underground when they literally hate the Democratic Party, Democrats, and everything it and they stand and fight for. Every politican is flawed. NONE are perfect. But it's progress we need to look out for (which disqualifies any and all Republicans).
I love the part in the movie, The Equalizer, when Denzel Washington tells his somewhat heavy colleague who wanted to become a security guard and had to lose weight: "Remember. Progress, not perfection". Those words ring so true when it comes to politics and policies. I wish more understood it.

If a simple bug is your excuse for NOT reading Liberal Democratic Posts, most containing useful information, that is tour choice. I know others who have made the same type of decisions.
"Whatever profound, important statement it is meant for is wasted."---edhopper
No. It is only wasted on YOU, not the majority of other DU mebmers (as demonstrated by the poll that was too embarrassing for you and yours to remain standing.)
After reading your posts here, it seems much is wasted on you.
Thank goodness and the Liberal gods that most readers of DU are more discriminating
and have a more Real World concept about what is important,
and what is not.
Good luck on your campaign.
The bug WILL remain in my posts, so you would be better off just putting me on ignore.
I will do that for you at the end of this very amusing thread.
I find content-less posts to be much more irritating, and much more of a waste of time than a microscopic bug.... but I guess we all have our priorities.
The future direction of the Democratic Party, the survival of the Working Class, and our country is at stake, not to mention the entire Middle East and MILLIONS of innocents already murdered by the US. The lives of thousands of innocent people living in the Middle East are also at stake if we nominate another War Monger.... but a bug is what is important to you.
A dancing bug on a BBS rates NOTHING compared to what we do here, and the future of the Democratic Party, the innocents in the Middle East, and the vanishing Working Class,
but you ARE free to obsess about a small bug, and choose THAT to limit your access to information.
Happy Trails.
You have disclosed the depth of your concerns, and it is embarrassing.
edhopper
(33,587 posts)a dancing bug at on a members sig is more important than all DUers reading said post.

I didn't know you could turn of sig lines then, and I like reading the quotes in people's sig lines, so I doubt I would have wanted to. The poster immediately replied that they would remove the spider, and they did, and therefore I can happily say that my ignore list still contains zero names. (39,909 posts)I never liked the animated bug either, but when a small group of members went offsite,
and started alert stalking some of our best and brightest
for the purpose of getting them banned, the bug became a symbol of resistance against the authoritarian plotters, cowards, and sneaks.
It is also a wave to, and a token of respect for the brothers and sisters that have been lost.
I'm sure they are seen by the banned who occasionally come her to read Latest News,
GD,GDP, and the Sanders group.
I really couldn't care less if some don't like it that we commemorate those who we have respected for years for their thoughtful posts and real contributions of CONTENT to DU.
DU is worse because of this small group of plotters and sneaks.
The first people to be attacked in an Authoritarian Society are the Best & Brightest,
those who "Think for Themselves" and dare to "Question Authority".
(thanks, Timothy)!
I miss them, their thoughtful posts, the added content, the intelligent discussions, the humor, and camaraderie we shared for years, and that is why the bugs will remain for a while in my sig line. The purpose is not to irritate, but to remember and honor the Best & The Brightest who have been run off of DU because of their Liberal Opinions and support of Liberal Democrats.

I have been posting at DU since 2001.
I had more contact and dialog with the people who have been run off of DU than I had with my family....on a daily basis. The Best and Brightest have been attacked and trolled relentless by snarky, content-nil, posts (like yours), usually highlighted with cartoons (like yours).
In Minnesota, we met each other in RL at least once every month,
and many invited into my home.
I have helped them when they were down, and they have always stood by me.
So newbie, you will just have to take my word for it.
Many of these people ARE my brothers and sisters in democracy.

When people I hold dear for many years are forever missing from my classes, or dinner table, or my home, or neighborhood,

Why do members call if "Grave Dancing" when some crow about another member being banned?
YES!
It is a death,
and YES...many I considered my brothers & sisters.
If you are unable to form these bonds, it is not your fault,

bvar22
(39,909 posts)Your conclusions about my family are way, WAY off, but that is not a surprise because I have read your Content-Less posts before.
I am surprised by the arrogance of some members of DU who think they know everything about an anonymous posters family situation.
YOU know NOTHING about MY family, and, yet, knowing NOTHING, you have the bold arrogance of making proclamation about MY family situation.
Whatever, I would NEVER trade places with you if I had to adopt YOUR twisted ideology.

And, you're right... its not the French Resistance... it's a Democratic Resistance! The level of connection found among members here is anything but silly. Its something that should be sought and encouraged.

I could not care less about the bugs, but obviously it seems to bother more than a few.

(154,021 posts)The unequal use of the TOS has become way too obvious and a dig about some pigs is these days missed, even if true.
I could speak of it in other terms. And I am fine if you skip this too

(18,497 posts)What would be next?
"The color green bothers me. I am important and everything you do should meet my approval in every way. I want the color green removed from DU. How can you not see how my wants to not see things I don't like is more important than your free expression?
I deserve to be able to look at everything and never see anything I don't like.
Anything I don't like must not be allowed to exist."
alphafemale
(18,497 posts)It's a tiny little speck.
edhopper
(33,587 posts)I post this to let people know that their sigs might be keeping people like me from reading their posts.
I don't think I was disrespectful or inflammatory.
Not only am I told I am petty and silly for posting this. But I am now on a few ignore lists because of it. I don't remember ever interacting with any of these members,so no big loss, but the irony and absurdity is precious.
alphafemale
(18,497 posts)If you are going to dismiss an opinion because of a flitting speck that is your right.
But you do not have the right to deny people creative expression.
edhopper
(33,587 posts)From the response on this thread, I am not alone. If this bug is more important to people than others reading their posts, that is fine.
I thought I would voice my opinion and let them know. Did I say anywhere it should be banned?
I could have gotten 0 replies here, but obviously I am not alone with this feeling.
I also find it hilarious that you are criticizing my voicing my opinion by saying people have a right to voice their opinion.
alphafemale
(18,497 posts)You want people to stop posting something because of a whim.
Being contradicted is not oppression and it never has been.
Let me never fall into the vulgar mistake of dreaming that I am persecuted whenever I am contradicted.

Maybe that quote is something you want removed next.
edhopper
(33,587 posts)It's something so irritating it prevents me from reading their posts.
I informed them with my post and they are free to react as they want.
Why do you find that a problem?
alphafemale
(18,497 posts)It is your right to disagree but it is not your right to try to get their post removed because you don't like it.
If it bothers you to that extent the answer is to place them on ignore.
edhopper
(33,587 posts)me asking that their posts are removed?
I have said no such thing. I asked they stop using that sig if they want their posts read by me.
You are way off base here.

(6,280 posts).. I suppose, but I'm using my phone, so I don't see it. It does seem to be annoying to quite a few people. If that is the aim, then all I would say is, my, what a worthy and satisfying goal. Reach for the stars!

(5,704 posts)I love that crawling bug, it is sort of cute and very innovative. Leave the crawling bug alone and please do not alert on the owner.
Best regards ever
edhopper
(33,587 posts)That I alerted anybody.
Nor did I say it was the Most annoying. It just makes me skip those posts.
akbacchus_BC
(5,704 posts)To each his own, skip the poster's post but why mention it unless you want to get attention.
You are already popular here, why not post something tangible.
Take care and keep well!
akbacchus_BC
(5,704 posts)problem? How about you tell me how you feel about the invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan and what created ISIS. A little bug on the screen is bothering you - I call BS!
Well this post will go to jury and I know the outcome. Vote to hide by a majority!
edhopper
(33,587 posts)do we only post on the most important issues.
Look at GD and tell me if this is the most trivial post on it?
If it is so small a thing, why did you bother to post here? Surely posting on a thread about little bugs isn't the most important thing you can do on DU.
Obviously from the replies and recs, I am not alone on this.
And yes, I was happy Glen is alive.
treestar
(82,383 posts)Did you ignore him?

(33,587 posts)I probably would have stopped reading.
I now find them in too many posts where it has become bothersome, hence my OP.
treestar
(82,383 posts)are they all bothersome if they move - there are a few others that have movement to them.
edhopper
(33,587 posts)I noticed these bugs on almost every thread I was reading and I found they distracted me and annoyed me so much I had to scroll past the posts.
So I posted my OP,that is the breadth of my thought on this.
I wasn't even aware of why people put bugs in their sig, neither did I care. Still don't.
KittyWampus
(55,894 posts)the bottom of their post is beyond me. I don't care if it was God, Santa or FSM who got banned for it, either.
So childish and that some take it so freaking seriously as if it's akin to staging a sit-in or march on Washington
edhopper
(33,587 posts)taking the time to chastise me for posting this instead of posting about the important issues.
Yet they spend the time to post about my OP.

(33,587 posts)did you not see the part where i say I scroll past these posts?
That was kinda the whole point of my OP.
Do people with these bugs care if DUers are not reading their posts because of them?
cherokeeprogressive

(24,853 posts)And my original reply was merely an attempt to keep you from being annoyed, since you'd have to look into my post in order to see the offensive material.
Perspective is reality. To you it's a bug. To me it's a little moving black dot on a computer screen. It represents someone I think was wrongfully tombstoned. People see what they want to see.
Let everyone ignore my posts. Most do anyway and it's no skin off my nose at all.
Oh yeah... Go Bernie!
edhopper
(33,587 posts)So posts no longer annoy me and I don't see what people think about banned members.

(33,587 posts)I just don't get what that has to do with this?
wildeyed
(11,243 posts)Neurons that fire together, wire together. If I see an annoying bug and a candidate's logo over and over, I begin to automatically associate the two. Now anytime I see the logo, I automatically get annoyed, bug or not. Because DU trained my neurons to do that.
Not a huge fan of the swatted bug either. I guess I will go figure out how to turn sigs off since this site is nearly unreadable for me right now.
edhopper
(33,587 posts)Disable sig lines.
Just found out myself in this thread.
I agree with your assessment. That and some of the posters who had a problem with my OP were a bit dickish.
Making me give a rat's ass about there cause.
wildeyed
(11,243 posts)It is just a visual processing glitch. It has to do with how tightly you focus your attention in the center of your visual field. Not sure what the hostility is about. I could not even follow about how someone who got banned did it and why I should give a damn about that. It is just annoying.
And what I said is true. Neurons that fire together, wire together. If you intentionally irritate people while showing them a logo, over time, you train them to feel irritation any time they see the logo. Because science.
edhopper
(33,587 posts)And I am a bad person for not liking their bugs apparently.

(33,587 posts)I have been on DU for almost 15 years and I don't think I have been put on anyone's ignore list.
I make one post about sig bugs irritating me, and half a dozen people find it so egregious, I am put on ignore.
Somehow, I can't find the strength to care.
