A striking number of leading mental health experts are concerned enough about the possibility of a Trump presidency that theyre willing to speak out, publicly, about the candidates Textbook narcissistic personality disorder.
During a recent interview with Vanity Fair, developmental psychologist Howard Gardner, a professor at Harvard Graduate School of Education, referred to Trump as remarkably narcissistic, while clinical psychologist Ben Michaelis used the term Textbook narcissistic personality disorder, to describe Trump.
Snip>Going on, Michaelis described Trumps constant belittling of other people as a symptom of a deeper problem.
To degrade people is really part of a cluster-B personality disorder: its antisocial and shows a lack of remorse for other people. The way to make it O.K. to attack someone verbally, psychologically, or physically is to lower them. Thats what hes doing.
Michaelis expressed his concerns about a Trump presidency, saying,
Hes applying for the greatest job in the land, the greatest task of which is to serve, but theres nothing about the man that is service-oriented. Hes only serving himself.

There isn't a clinically sane one in the bunch.

(568 posts)This is reason enough to worry about him being president. And if he did get the Republican nomination, I can only imagine whom he would choose as VP -- and the possible related consequences.

(40,416 posts)Carson? Mad as a hatter. Plus a theocrat.
Cruz? Pure Theocrat!
The rest of them are either pure theocrat or theocrat panderers.
Plus, they are all barking mad.

(2,978 posts)At least those four have some connection with reality.
Trump is a textbook narcissist. I actually suspect Carson is a sociopath. The blunted affect and remorseless, compulsive, fantastical lying are tells.

(33,688 posts)He lies with a glibness that is genuinely terrifying and the only real question about him is whether he actually believes the abject insanity he spouts. If he doesn't that proves positively he's a psychopath/sociopath in the and if he does he is just plain nuts - as in 90%+ completely detached from anything resembling reality.
He is dangerous as hell in either case.
Actually he reminds me a lot of a lesser known serial killer named Ed Kemper. Kemper, a highly intelligent psychopath, liked to hang out with his cop buddies at a bar frequented by the schweineri. He pulled into the place one night to sink a few beers with his good buds on the force. The head of his most recent victim was in his trunk.
Cruz is THAT kind of crazy.

(47,501 posts)in a satirical movie about politics, not someone that people would seriously consider to be real. Yet he is real and the media just keeps promoting him and all his ignorant, hateful rhetoric.
Even Will Ferrell as a politician was more believable than Trump.

(1,668 posts)It seems to me that being a racist a-hole is probably a good way to win the Republican nomination.
Once he wins it, he can abandon that strategy and play populist which will be a pretty deadly strategy if the democrats throw out a Wall Street candidate.

(47,501 posts)but the hateful rhetoric toward opponents and any journalist that dares criticize him, is classic Trump. He was self-absorbed, nasty, and mean spirited long before he ran for office.
