By KATHERINE FAULDERS PAHRUMP, Nevada Nov 23, 2015, 3:10 PM ET
In a press conference following a rally in Nevada today, presidential candidate Ben Carson told reporters that he saw a video of American Muslims cheering on Sept. 11, 2001, in New Jersey when the World Trade Center's twin towers fell.
When asked by ABC News if American Muslims were cheering on 9/11, Carson said Yes.
When asked if he specifically saw it happening he said, I saw the film of it, yeah.
Later in the press conference he clarified he saw it from the newsreels from the 9/11 coverage at the time.

(915 posts)where some muslims were cheering and others said that they understand why the bombing occurred and added that they themselves didn't think the bombing was necessary.
It was unsettling and caused me to look deeper into muslim culture and what I found was that beheadings, forced conversions, and hatred of other religions was taught to more than a few members.

(915 posts)what was disturbing was how well to do and educated those muslims being interviewed were. Some were Harvard educated. The theme was that while violence should be avoided, they understood why bin laden would do such a thing - e.g. he was provoked by us.
How do you know they were Harvard educated? Does that surprise you that they were or could be?
I think the question was if you saw this happen in the USA.

(62,444 posts)Saying one "understood why bin laden would do such a thing" is not the same thing as cheering and dancing in the streets.

(915 posts)equate a German saying they don't agree with Hitler but understood his motivations

(61,634 posts)After 9/11, many people speculated on bin Laden's motivations. I did myself, and I'm not Muslim.
Trying to figure out a terrorist's motivations is the first step in catching them. Of course, bushco didn't care about catching bin Laden. Obama did that.
The lie that Carson and Trump are telling us that thousands of Muslims in New Jersey celebrated the attack. This is false. The mayors if the cities in New Jersey say it's false. So do the police.

(62,444 posts)I understand that the German people were in a severe and extended economic crisis, and responded to the type of populism which becomes attractive to populations in distress. Hitler was the right megalomaniac to rise to the occasion.
You can go through life failing to understand why people do things, and it is a poor way to anticipate future behavior.
But it is difficult to evaluate whatever it is you are referring to, in the absence of a link which, at this point, I surmise you are not willing to provide, and which, from your description, does not sound like the events in question in relation to Trump's allegations of American Muslims 'celebrating' 9/11.
So I have absolutely no idea whatever it is you are referring to as "outrageous".

(3,829 posts)Anyone that had a clue about US foreign policy that led up to 9-11 understood why we were attacked. It wasn't for our freedom. Understanding why we were attacked is needed.
What was bad was many of us cheering for the unprovoked attack against Iraq. Now that was bad.

(61,634 posts)It's interesting how people will deflect from the outrageous behavior that we Americans committed, while pointing to non-existent behaviors supposedly done by some "others."

(3,829 posts)I'm not saying that, though the implications of what you are saying is that nations the US attacks and the people the US murders do deserve to die. Because if you don't believe that, you won't have such a hard time believing US Government actions might piss people off.
