If you're curious bout the colorado shooter, I'm listening to the scanner. Will update

Last edited Fri Nov 27, 2015, 08:23 PM - Edit history (1)

So far what I have gleened

The guy
-Trench Coat
-Bearded (think I heard it was a white beard, can't confirm entirely).
-White or possibly white Hispanic
-Stocky build
-Armed with a m-14 and possibly an ak-47
-Is shooting through the walls back at police.
-Possibly listening to police scanner based on how he is reacting.
-Moving around the clinic to counter the armored vehicles attempting to bust in.

Police
-Deploying armored vehicles.
-Have taken casualties, unclear the nature of them.

Situation
-Held up in a planned parenthood
-Not clear if he is actively holding hostages, there are people inside though.

On edit: Some hostages were rescued from a bathroom a few moments ago.
Double on edit: Shooter held up in or near the bathroom, not sure if hostages are in there with him. Police are talking about breaking in with the armored vehicle.
Triple edit: Police think they have the shooter cornered, appear to be preparing to storm the shooter.
Newest edit: Police saying the shooter is alone and cornered, no more hostages near him.
Final update: Shooter has been captured.

PM me if you want a link to the scanner. Warning, it is kinda disturbing.

it's a wise decision and money well spent for a place like this to have a "safe room".

this safe room. I can not imagine being under this kind of threat in the workplace every day. and it is only going to get worse=as the House has set up a special committee to investigate PP and the videos.

but please keep the details to non, like about to breach whatever.

We do this for a living and we are asked regularly by cops NOT to divulge any tactical moves from what we hear over the scanner.

It might sound stupid, but it is the same reason why TV crews are asked NOT to show SWAT positions, beyond a perimeter. (And why recently a local channel was scolded over twitter by the local cops, it was humorous)

And fools, I guess Colorado Springs does not have tactical encrypted NOT ON BROADCASTIFY frequencies.

If I hear something like about to storm I'll be judicious about it. I think they use codes for that stuff generally, least that is my understanding.

go on clear over tactical channels and discuss things extensively at times over the radio. Many of them face to face, so we pesky media, and hobbyists who have actual physical scanners, don't hear them.

Mind you, these are encrypted channels NOT on broadcastify. But that my actual physical scanner is programed to receive.

Yeah, they will use things like CP for command post, but the only code they still kind of use, is the 10 code (might be different for CO), when the situation is over. Otherwise. nope, pretty much in the clear. You heard that about breach...

And as I said, I very much doubt he is reading DU. So chances are... if he is getting any info, it is from other places.

scanners...

But because of the online scanner tools. CAL FIRE and the rest of the Fire folks use the 800 non encrypted channels. So when we go to a major fire we have the phone app on the fire... and the scanner on well scan, since the CHP does use partially encrypted, partially not, If it is San Diego CITY it has to be the actual physical scanner... since the one on the app is wants and warrants, Though that has become the default freq during county wide events.

Information we know we can use and post, road closures...

the old ones don't... but pretty much. They have to be programmed, which is a pain and them some. But they pick both encrypted and non encrypted. The Encrypted also is a narrow band, which means more freqs for your buck. The FCC likes that.

these days during major events, like the 2014 wildfires, we had broadcastify running on the computer, the cell phone the IPAD and the physical scanner.

It sounded like a bloody dispatch with so many frequencies going from so many fire agencies. but we were able to know where the fires were more or less, while using topo maps. We were able to keep people informed as well. And when we go to an actual fire, we have the topo maps on both the phone and the ipad.
