I think TV & movies play into this a lot. Ever notice that you cant have a movie about, say, a great hero in the military, without some secret group trying to "silence" him? Look at the Bourne movies, same thing. And Look at ABC's "Scandal", always some power behind the scenes REALLY running everything.

There is a mountain of evidence demonstrating negligence on the part of the media in not calling out the lies when they are spewed in no uncertain terms.

More of these days and just keep them turned off and more attention drawn to alternative sources. Need to keep the internet open and unencumbered more than anything else and keep monopolies from gobbling up all the i.s.p.'s. Clip the Cable bill and donate to the sources you deem worthy of your focus.

The problem is that people naturally gravitate toward the sources with which they already know they will agree. Studies have shown that groups of people who share the same views tend to reinforce each others' viewpoints and move toward extremes. In the past, we had one set of facts from which we formed our own opinions. We now have two different sets of contradictory "facts" and no way of having a sane discussion. The information from the right-wing outlets is more likely to be untrue or manipulated, but its followers have been trained to believe that there is a vast liberal conspiracy to discredit the "truth" and therefore refuse to fact-check or accept that they are being played. While I find the liberal outlets to be more factual, there are exceptions to the rule (especially where the Israel/Palestine situation is involved). If we ever want to pull this country back together, we need to restore our national media so we can speak a common language.

When I was a freshman in college in 1967 a young lady who lived across the hall from me in the on-campus dorm DIED FROM A BACK ALLEY BUTCHER who provide her with the only solution there was at that time for an unwanted pregnancy besides hangers, knitting needles, falling down the stairs, getting punched in the stomach repeatedly and other forms of useless torture. She bled to death. That has left a mark on me for a very long time. I will never forget this event. It was totally unnecessary. What the forced birthers and anti-choicers foisted upon women back then was a situation where often the mother and fetus both died. They appear bound and determined to again return females to the same position of a lesser being.

NEVER AGAIN. No fetus has superior rights to a living, breathing human female who in consultation with her medical provider makes informed decisions about her body. PERIOD. As far as I am concerned, there is no maybe about this. A female who wants an abortion is going to get one and standing in the way of safe, legal abortion is NOT the freaking answer.

Agree 100%. Very well-said. I'm 58 and Roe v. Wade was law when I became sexually active. I know women who have had abortions and I fully respect their choice. I have always believed that abortion on demand is a good thing. If you can't have control over your own body, what do you have control over?
