AUSTIN Turns out theres another twist to the story of a 19-year-old dubbed the adorable drug kingpin after a booking photo taken following her arrest on drug trafficking charges went viral.
According to media reports, that smiling face belongs to the daughter of a Drug Enforcement Administration official.
Sarah Furay, 19, was arrested in November in College Station on charges of possessing and selling ecstasy, meth, cocaine and marijuana. According to reports, she had two digital scales and a handwritten menu of drug prices in her bedroom. She flashed a big grin for her booking photo, earning it the Internet title of happiest mugshot in America. Reports are emerging that Furay is the daughter of DEA Agent Bill Furay.
As was first noted by Death and Taxes, Sarah Furays father is a supervisory special agent. The irony of the situation has only propelled her viral mugshot deeper into Internet infamy.
But not everyone has been amused. In an article in The Daily Beast titled When White Girls Deal Drugs, They Walk, Abby Haglage points out a possible double standard and asks if the reaction to Sarah Furays mugshot would have been the same if she was not white.

(10,164 posts)6. It's not her whiteness that sent this viral.
Abby Haglage points out a possible double standard and asks if the reaction to Sarah Furays mugshot would have been the same if she was not white.
This went viral because she's pretty and smiling in such a cute way in a mug shot (of all places). That would have held true, regardless of her race. If she'd been homely, the pic would never have gone viral, regardless of her race. The story would have still been reported, given the irony of who her dad is, but no viral explosion for the image.
A great way to measure the likelihood of something going viral is to view it from the perspective of someone on 4chan. If, for example, a picture of a female would elicit reactions like "so hawt" or "mai waifu!" on 4chan (followed by a string of vulgar and/or anatomically impossible suggestions), then you know it might go viral. And yes, that this method works so well is a sad and cynical commentary on society.
