12 Santa Clara County jail guards probed for racist texts

SANTA CLARA COUNTY (KRON, AP) — At least a dozen guards in Santa Clara County repeatedly exchanged racist text messages over the past year, which included some threats of casual brutality.

The messages surfaced in an ongoing investigation, and they also included slurs against black, Latino, Vietnamese, and Jewish people.

The texts do not urge other guards to commit violent acts, but they do seem to applaud violence. The examination of the texts started before three guards were charged with the beating death of an inmate earlier this year ...
