Average age of a Fox News viewer: 65 [CNN: 63; MSNBC: 59]
Who has the most watched news network in all the land? Fox News!
And who has the oldest audience in all of cable? Fox News!
In a survey released by analyst Steve Sternberg, Fox News has the oldest audience among fully distributed cable networks. The networks average viewer last season was 65 years old, according to Nielsen. Heck, its viewers are even older than viewers of Hallmark Channel, Military Channel and Golf Channel.
CNN wasnt far behind, though its average audience was 63. MSNBC was a perky 59. CNBC is the young turk at 52.
The youngest fully distributed cable channel? Oxygen. Followed by Bravo and, weirdly, VH1 Classic, then Travel and TLC all averaging about 42 years old.
Average age of a CBS viewer: 55 [ABC: 51; NBC: 49; Fox: 44]

Come on now. Not a single, sane, person on DU would honestly believe that.

(29,135 posts)I think most boomers/seniors who watch t.v. are just watching out of habit and because they can't accept the fact that what's on t.v. is no longer accurate, reliable or of good quality, either in terms of information or entertainment.

(67,111 posts)people telling me anything printed in a paper or magazine had to be truthful. As I kid I used to think this is really not true. Now, I think the same applies to TV viewing habits. Some people think they can trust what MSM says on TV. I always find it often a bunch of garbage.

(12,448 posts)I'm so thankful for idiot media executives. Thanks to their commitment to ever-rising ad prices and ever-falling production standards & budgets, they're freeing more and more people from the television addiction.
We just have to be really vigilant about the web.

(60,212 posts)but I know that old people tend to park themselves in front of the TV while younger people park themselves in front of the internet or video games.
My grandma (who is 85) watches teh TV all day long. All day, like from 10 am to midnight.
My mom (who is in her early 60s) used to watch HELLA TV (like 3+++ hours a night), but since she got her iPad she has been sucked into the cycle of computer games, internet, and Netflix and the TV is on about 3 hours a week.
I'm in my early 30s, and I can watch at most 2 hours of TV at a stretch (California Gold + Antiques Roadshow = ), whereas 5 straight hours on the internet isn't crazy at all for me. I watch the MSNBC when it's election night or something big is going on.
I would guess that if you took a snapshot of who is watching the different channels at any given time, it would show a more broad age distribution, but if you looked at hours per week, it's the old people watching.
