Winter wonderlands in the UK--skating in fairy fantasies around Britain

Go for a spin on a 1,000-year-old moat or in the shadow of a royal seaside retreat: As the festive season gets fully into swing, the best ice skating rinks in Britain revealed

* As the nights grow colder what better way to warm up than to wrap up and try some incredible skating rinks
* Not to be missed is the magical set up at Natural History Museum with its large decorated Christmas tree
* Many cities round the UK have their own offerings including Brighton's Royal Pavilion and Winchester Cathedral

Somerset House, London

With Christmas just around the corner cities across the UK are being transformed into winter wonderlands with ice rinks springing up in dazzling locations.

From skating in the shadows of the London Eye and the Tower of London to a snowy arena at the Eden Project in Cornwall, there are many spectacular options this year.

There's nothing so romantic and quintessentially hibernal as skating rinks. Since the days of Torvill and Dean, the UK has excelled at creating them.

Never was a good skater with my weak and skinny ankles, but have always loved the fairyland atmosphere.

ice skates. I haven't skated since junior high . We had a pond in a vacant lot and all the neighborhood kids would go over there to play hockey. Thanks for posting.

Never really felt at home on skates, though. Started too late, I guess.

Stuff like this make life worth living. All we get are bombs and monuments to those that died while delivering those bombs.
