Idaho bans Ogden-made Five Wives Vodka

OGDEN — Five Wives Vodka, produced by Ogden’s Own Distillery, has been banned from sale in Idaho by that state’s liquor division.

"We feel Five Wives Vodka concept is offensive to a prominent segment of our population and will not be carried," Howard Wasserstein, deputy director of the Liquor Division, explained in a letter to distributor Elite Spirits of Boise.

"After several establishments asked the state for special orders of Five Wives Vodka, we were informed that the product would not be allowed to be sold," explained John Challenger, president of Elite Spirits. "It’s disappointing as we have customers who want the product. It’s a rare move for them to ban a product outright from special orders."

Steve Conlin, partner and vice president of marketing at Ogden’s Own Distillery, said the product has sold almost 1,000 cases in six months in Utah.

I think it's blatantly illegal ban one specific type of liquor and allow the others.

Can't be choosy or picky. I don't care if it offends the Mor(m)ons.

Who don't drink anyway, so fuck 'em. Sorry but this is pretty absurd, you have no right to not be offended. If someone wants to distill and bottle something called "Crazy Joe Smith's Gold Plate Moonshine" (for example), then as long as it complies with the tax regulations I don't see why it shouldn't be offered for sale.

Don't let them fool you. I've seen far too many falling down drunk Mormons in my life to ever nurture the illusion that Mormons don't drink.

Except that "Baptists" replaces "Mormons". Equally clever in either case, and both contain a large grain of truth.
