Strange Weather in Buffalo, New York, no snow at all, late this year, last year-7 feet- Nov/2014

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - A 116-year-old snow record has fallen in Buffalo.

But this time, it`s for lack of snow.

The National Weather Service says that as of Friday, the record for the latest date without measurable snowfall has been broken.

The last time the city waited so long for at least a tenth of an inch of snow was in 1899, when it arrived on Dec. 3.

Meteorologist Jim Mitchell says the wait will continue this year. There`s no snow in the forecast until at least mid-December.

The start of the winter season couldn`t be more different than last year, when some areas of Buffalo and the suburbs saw seven feet of snow in November during what`s now called the "Snowvember" storm.

We usually have at least a dusting of snow by Thanksgiving. This year we have been below freezing a handful of times.

Unusual.

An El Niño pattern is expected to funnel mild air into the East through the start of 2016, allowing the snow drought to continue for major East Coast cities.

While the Eastern states will continue to see a snow drought through January, the West will have an abundance of snow.

"A strong, Pacific jet stream [storm track] will continue to provide moisture-laden storms into the West through early next year," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Brett Anderson said. "This is great news for the western ski areas and for some of the drought-stricken areas."

I'm going to check the garden for lettuce. I can see green out there. Sometimes I love climate change.
