Lowe's has 6-packs of LED light bulbs for $9.95

Apologies: This really should be Energy & Environment but GD gets a LOT more traffic.

60-watt equivalent. I bought one last night and the bulbs work well - nice and bright, much better than the "60-watt equivalent" CFLs I replaced with these.

faster brighter, and are not so bad for the environment when they are used up, and they last a long time.

Did the 9 PAR-20s in the basement track lighting last week, and love the way they light up the room.

They're expensive, but worth it if they're going to last years.

We've done about 1/2 of the A19 sized bulbs in our house.

Costco has 3 for 19.99, which we thought was a good deal. 6 for $10 is really cheap.

I do still have a couple CFL bulbs to use up (I can't remember the last time I had to replace one). I may just recycle them responsibly and purchase some of these. One broke once, and it was a pita to deal with.

When they say warm, is it really warm? I have several led night lights, and I really don't like the cool/blueish tint.

Our local big box home store has a display showing how the different LED bulbs look. Some are almost pinkish.

There are various LEDs manufactured, and my son has a gaming headset that allows 65K differrent colors that he can program from his PC. I'd have to check the bulbs being sold to see if they suffer from the CFL flickering and clor tint.

But, I know what you mean about those nightlights. It's kind of a gross and disturbing color.

The only experience I have had is with those night lights and those LED candles (don't like the orange, either).

The light looks very much like that produced by a standard filament light bulb - not CFL-y or bluish at all. You should be pleased.

They take longer to achieve the brightness needed, so in some rooms, I tended to just leave them on, whereas with a regular bulb, I'd turn it off when I left the room. In other cases where I lived with the lower brightness on turn on and turned the on and off as frequently as I would a regular bulb, they tended to burn out pretty quickly, so they probably did not last long enough to save enough money to balance the increased initial cost. Really, terribly disappointing, and (to sound Republican for a moment) a bummer that the gov't practically forced us to do it, even though it didn't always make sense and was often an inferior tech. I may replace them all with LEDs, and throw out a whole bunch of usable CFLs in the process. Which I suspect wil be bad for the environment no matter what I do.

They had display cases set up in the middle of the isle. I haven't been back since so I don't know if they have the same deal, but I picked up a few of them at the time.

There's a couple of things to know about LED bulbs:

1) not all of them are dimmable, so if you have a dimmable fixture, make sure you get the right ones.

2) Most of them are designed for fixtures with good ventilation. The ones designed for closed fixtures have much bigger heat sinks and tend to be considerably more expensive.

Good call. I'd rather shop at my local hardware store but this is too good to pass up. These are usually $5 each
