These Pranksters Read Bible Passages to People, Telling Them It Was the Qur’an; They Were Shocked

A lot of conservative Christians like to argue, as do atheists, that the Qur’an is full of barbarism and misogyny. Unlike the atheists, though, they forget that their own Bible is also full of horrific verses.

So the Dutch pranksters at Dit Is Normaal ran an experiment. They bought a Bible, but changed the cover to say it’s the Qur’an. Then they asked people to read passages and give their thoughts.

It went exactly as you’d expect:

It was also funny to see them speaking in Dutch and suddenly "What the fuck?" comes out of their mouths in English.

I don't normally look at the Greatest Page. This is good enough to share on GD as well as the video/multimedia group.

I'd like to see the same experiment done in this country. Of course here, they'd probably get shot once people realized they'd been pranked, in contrast with the reasonable and thoughful reactions of the Dutch subjects.

Inasmuch as they indulge in religiosity at all they don't seem to take it so seriously as we in the US tend to, and for the most part their whole society is trending toward humanism with an agnostic approach to religious matters. This is of course one reason you get people who probably think of themselves as nominally Christian who don't realize those passages are in the Bible. In the southern US nobody would have been surprised at the switcheroo.
