GOP effort to get foe for Battiato fails (Douglas County Register of Deeds)

Yet another attempt to have a Republican candidate face off against Douglas County Register of Deeds Diane Battiato in the November election has fallen flat.

Jason Johanns failed to amass the 2,044 write-in votes required to put his name on the ballot, election commissioner David Phipps said.

Phipps said he didn't know yet the exact number of votes Johanns received. But of the 2,783 Republican write-ins for the office in the May 15 primary, at least 1,028 were left blank or listed someone else. Phipps said his office will likely have the official count by the end of the week.

“There's no way, so at this point we've pretty much stopped counting,” he said.
