A strange ironic dichotomy on the left and right.

On the left it seems we carry some deep distrust, almost hatred, of authority, yet push for further enrichment of the establishment (government) from which that authority flows.

On the right it seems they carry some deep distrust of the establishment, yet push for further enrichment of its authority (military, police powers).

It's kind of like two cogs rotating in opposite directions somehow keeping the center component relatively stable, not prone to rapid change.

Does that make any sense?

Advocating for higher taxes to fund social programs is not the same as enriching the government.

Asking for authority to be accountable in a democratic society is not hatred.
