Santiago Ortiz is lying, eyes closed, on the bed. He is no picture of repose.
Above his jaundiced, swollen belly, his thin chest is pumping fast. His face twists into the pillow. An oxygen mask is strapped tight across his mouth and nose.
Santiago is two years old and has acute myeloid leukaemia. What he does not have is adequate treatment.
Inside his cramped room, on the 10th floor of the University Hospital of Caracas, his doctor, paediatric resident Joam Andrade, points to the cockroaches on the walls, and the sticky tape holding his oxygen tube together.

This should get you started. No exit polls, so the world has to wait until officials announce the results.

(4,510 posts)6. Nope I just realize that most of their problems are caused by the oil price falling. It's hard to
socialize with nothing to do it with but I'm also very distrustful of conservative parties generally. So either way they're fucked but at least with the socialists they'll try to support the people even if they fall short. At this point the conservatives will probably just privatize infrastructure while leaving the people to struggle by themselves.

(62,277 posts)8. They wasted billions.
Any proper socialist approach would have diversified. Instead they kicked out US private companies and replaced them with Chinese private companies. It was perhaps the greatest wasted opportunity in all of Latin America.
