5/29 Minneapolis PD violently raid foreclosed home, activists march to the precinct and jail

Join us tomorrow May 30th at 1pm to respond to the third attempted eviction in less than a week.

We are not backing down. We will not be intimidated.

Press conference Wed 5/30 1pm at City Hall to denounce the police raid ordered by mayor RT Rybak on a family in active negotiations with the bank and to demand that the OUTRAGEOUS charges be dropped on a protester being held for $80,000 bail for nonviolently defending the Cruz family's home by locking down to a concrete barrel.

*****
Here is a timeline of posts of what happened today (and still continuing). If you have Facebook you can see some incredible pictures..of over 70 activists a dozen cops.. some use of pepper Spray by the Minneapolis cops, and lots of overtime for Mpls PD.

Support requested as MPD crawling all over Cruz home right now 4044 Cedar Ave., can see a SUV back there. Call Dan Taylor, Vice President of PNC Bank and demand that he call off the eviction of the Cruz family while negotiations are in progress! 412-762-2000. First time Mpls taxpayer $ squandered on this eviction triggered by bank error. With barrel lockdown we have some time for supporters to gather. Photo by JN

WE SHALL NOT BE MOVED!
Tick was able to get by the police line and has locked down to a half ton concrete barrel! We should have at least an hour if not more to gather our supporters. GET HERE ASAP!

Crowds gathering and more Mpls police arriving at 4044 Cedar Ave S. Cruz house eviction resistance ~ why is the mayor so bent on defending a bank error? [maybe because bank errors are a huge source of foreclosures in the city]

Call Mayor R.T. Rybak (612) 673-2100 ask him why his police are evicting a family in active negotiations w the bank. SHAME!

(Police close down the street in front of Cruz home.. pepper spray at close range on the protesters that are behind the blockade)

March coming up Hiawatha minutes ago after bank error eviction carried out violently. Now marching at MPD 3rd Precinct, Minnehaha & Lake (about 2 miles away)
Join us! Lake and minnehaha police precinct! Show the police the community that supports the unjust eviction of the Cruz family home

2 very rough draft of video as it was happening live

Confusing statement from City on Facebook towards Freddie Mac posted a few minutes ago
City secures foreclosed home, tells Freddie Mac to take responsibility for its property

Minneapolis Police today secured a foreclosed home at 4044 Cedar Ave. S. by boarding it up. At the direction of Mayor Rybak, Minneapolis City Attorney Susan Segal reached out to Freddie Mac to say that the City is not in the foreclosure business. “The City plays a limited role to protect public safety. The property is the responsibility of its owner,” said Segal. In this case, the City has fulfilled its legal obligation to secure the property.

(well, that is what we have so far as I sign off and go to bed at midnight. tomorrow I'm sure there will be a better write up and hopefully I can share the pictures)
