(15,805 posts)After a near drowning, the poor critter is cold, exhausted and battered. Another article noted, "He is now dried with towels, eating a hot mash, all cozy and warm and our vet has seen him and started him on antibiotics to prevent pneumonia." Hope he gets better.

(2,899 posts)His ears are full of water, he has something in one of his eyes and water has gone up his nose ...not to mention he's cold and exhausted....thus the "smile".
Equines are lovely intelligent creatures with lots of expressions, but they don't smile like humans do.
I hope he makes a full recovery.
