Trying to pass sweeping gun control laws is heavily contentious and divisive, and because gun control is much more of an issue for big cities than it is for rural places, gun control should be left up to big cities and counties in metropolitan areas, if possible.

(36,063 posts)It's also about how the community expresses desire for terms of use of firearms within their jurisdiction.
In that way, it seems to me, that an incorporated community isn't any different from other corporations that have rules about fire arms possession/use on their property.
Dealing with failure to comply, aka 'breaking the law', is the basic job we expect from a process called law-enforcement. Anticipation that a law would be broken isn't a compelling reason of itself to not create the law.
Burglary and assault for example, happen all the time and the law cannot prevent those acts from occurring. However, the law does provide for penalties to be applied to convicted and admitted violators.

(9,951 posts)Most states have a pre emption law just because a firearm shouldn't have to worry about being legal from city to city, town to town, county to county.
Only the state should be setting firearm laws so there isn't a patchwork of laws throughout the state.
