http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2015/12/08/exclusive-mh370-was-crippled-by-sudden-electrical-failure.htmlThe pilots of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 were suddenly confronted by a cascading loss of electrical power in which many of the airplanes vital systems shut down, placing an urgent demand on the crew to understand and deal with the failures.
Before this loss of power occurred the crew had been able to make regular contact with air traffic controllers and the airplane was able automatically to transmit its position.
After it, no word was ever heard again from the pilots. Its two automatic reporting systems, the transponder continually sending the airplanes position and a separate system reporting the condition of its critical systems at half-hourly intervals both stopped working.
This new revelation of a serious technical problem and its immediate affects is buried in the arcane detail of a lengthy report issued last week by the Australian Transport Bureau who are directing the search for the Boeing 777. It is the first official acknowledgement of what had previously been only speculation that there was a sudden loss of electrical power capable of disabling vital systems.

All combat happens at night, in the rain, at the junction of 4 map segments. All cascading electrical problems begin in the 3 minutes you are between air traffic control radar stations...
While this still leaves open a lot of questions, this report really does undercut the idea that it was a pilot going rogue.

(32,324 posts)1. What implies to you that a pilot went rogue?
What if the plane simply experienced a large EMp, sufficient to knock out its power?

(78,249 posts)2. My thought as well.
But where would such an EMP come from?
edit: And the OP said the report undercut the idea that it was a pilot going rogue.

(56,582 posts)3. It *undercuts* that idea
It seems much less plausible that a pilot went rogue, given what DailyBeast is reporting.
