Is there any hope of reform?
Repukes have been masters at circumventing democracy with it.
What's the latest?

(14,449 posts)The states decide districting. We hardly have any state majorities left. That has to change by 2020 or it will be worse in the house. Losing 900 seats since 2098 is not good. That is in the state houses.

Perhaps they can turn it around in 2020.
But not with DWS in charge.
Bring back Dean and the 50 State strategy.

(3,660 posts)That 50 state strategy? The one that stressed winning over ideological purity? Or do people really think Kucinich could win a TN Senate race?

(52,589 posts)an American flag because it does not represent a government of and by the people and is a straight up lie and deeply immoral. I have the knowledge that this country is not a free country nor any sort of representative of the concept. All it takes to realize the truth is to have your full vote reduced to a third. But alas, I and my family have been damned to live here. Any questions?

(24,461 posts)That's why it's incredibly important to keep at least the Senate and the Presidency under Democratic control. "All three branches" is going to unleash a hell not seen since Bewsh the Dumber.
Ohio's state legislature has been 95% under Republican control for 20 years.

(52,589 posts)They will control your legislature and the House of Representatives no matter what you do until those with a full vote abandon them. Hard cold fact and truth.

(5,325 posts)Each state determines how its congressional districts are drawn. In order to change those rules in any state, legislation would have to come out of that state's legislature. Face it, they're all politicians. They're never going to pass laws that tie their own hands and, though this will likely be an unpopular statement on DU, both parties do it in the states where they hold majorities. It's all part of the game.

(6,342 posts)We have a urban-rural divide in this country. The politics between the big cities and the folks out in the country and suburbs don't match on many different issues.
