This morning. I always enjoy his number running, as he makes some sharp observations.
But this morning he made me say, WTF! He tried to compare trump's 27% support to the support of the 27% support for the "establishment" republicans ... Christy, Jeb and the guy from Ohio kasich (?).
But in order for his numbers to work ... he had to exclude Rubio and his 11% support ... which is higher than Jeb and kasich's support combined and he is as establishment as they come.
Come on Steve!

(59,504 posts)I think the commonality of Jeb, Christie and Kaisick is that they are More centrist (though not so much with Kaisick) establishment Republicans. I agree that you could add Rubio. That then begs the question of whether to add Cruz. Though Cruz positions himself as an outsider, his biography is that of a privileged insider - at least from college on. (Looking at the numbers, Rubio and Cruz both have more support than the centrists.)
On the other side, you could argue that he should add Carson to Trump.
I suspect that where he was going was that the percent of people AGAINST Trump is enough that if they chose an ABT -- the ABT will win. In fact, look back at how well the Anybody but Carter of anybody but (Bill) Clinton efforts did -- in both those cases, the majority of Democrats preferred one of the many similar (as to the political spectrum) opponents.
I assume he is trying to convince himself that Trump will not be the nominee. He is scary, but everything that should have made him implode spectacularly, has made him stronger.
