(86,799 posts)I found other activities, brush a foot of snow off the vehicle to go to town, cleaned up the cabin, stocked more firewood closer to the stove, skied for couple hours, visited with my neighbor, watched more snow fall. Speaking of snow, just getting the last of another foot of it today. This is great news, we need a good 18ft of snow (that actually hangs around until June) each winter for things to be okay come summer for us up here at the headwaters and everybody downstream.
A lot happened this weekend so we need to get it together and catch up.

(86,799 posts)We're having a much better snow year than last year already. By this time last year, we had about a foot and that was about it until March, even then it was not enough. but it was a cool summer, it snowed in July and late August and our foliage started in early September. Winter arrived, as it often does, overnight the day after the nearby national park closed its summer season on 11/2.
I'm really glad for the snow too, it means mushrooms in spring and wildflowers, hopefully blooming at the right time too. Last year the orchids were way off their normal schedule... some were up to five weeks late while others were up to five weeks early. Of the two I'm describing, one blooms six weeks ahead of the other and last summer they were both blooming simultaneously which was spooky. Some wildlife species are birthing their young a lot earlier than they used to too. I don't expect anything to be as it was most of my life but some of the changes are more than a little alarming. At least, for now, we have snow which is also a major economic resource for our rural region.

(46,758 posts)I stepped in just long enough to read that DU was back on line.
Although, I left so fast that I didn't close the page, and wouldn't you know it, opening both websites resulted in freezing the screen.

A-ma-zing. Lots of information to "discuss," yet what I got were gassy riffs off the likes of Rush Limpnuts and the NAZI Ailes.

(55,745 posts)If you prioritize the "Politics" page by author, a quick analysis from counting who says what shows "Konservative" fills three out of 30 pages.
It's like the Dude never leaves.
A quick analysis of what he posts is almost entirely opinion -- no articles, links or sources named.
But, he sure knows how to make enough noise that people with open minds don't get a good impression of DI.
