Common ownership: does it mean anything at all? ||| MSNBC <> CNBC
Consider that CNBC and MSNBC are owned by the same company, NBCUniversal Media, LLC.
CNBC is where BirtherDonald gets a platform to go on about Obama's place of birth and, more recently, his scholastic prowess. Some of the CNBC personalities are pretty vile, hard right types, like Rick Santelli (credited by many as being the catalyst that birthed the Tea Baggers). CNBC has long been the province of the hard right.
And then there's MSNBC. The left sees a lot of its personalities as darlings of liberalism. And surely some of them are. But it seems to me, only to a point. NBCUniversal Media, LLC, is not about to let them go against corporate orthodoxy. In many ways, it seems to me, MSNBC is set up to be a whipping boy. Their personalities go as far as they are allowed to go. Or they must go. Cenk comes to mind.
All those next to and above MSNBC in the corporate hierarchy are their apparent antithesis.
MSNBC is there because someone wants them there. Not because they're a left leaning organization. They just allow their owners to have it both ways.
I was inspired by having tuned in to them a few times over the last few weeks after a self imposed avoidance for quite some time.
I also notice they still run that creepy prison porn on weekends. Does anyone know what CNBC runs on weekends?
