(2,030 posts)It brings to mind the old joke about whores and lawyers.

(27,985 posts)I live in a red red area. I interact with conservatives plenty. The internet is my escape from it. And if I ever get the urge to read it or fight with them, I can visit the comment section of my local paper.
Newp. No thanks.

There were some interesting folks over there, and after finally signing up, yes, I will spend some time there.
I will say that some DU members were total assholes from the get go over there. Wow!

(8,352 posts)There are assholes here and there just like on any forum. There are trolls here and there just like on any forum.
I guess I am just not threatened by chit chat with those who are not just like me. After all, I am much more than just a political label I apply to myself for communications sake.

(8,352 posts)implied that here there are none of those things, which, of course, is untrue.
Frankly, I don't get all in tizzy when I see some of those things. Some people think any criticism of Clinton is sexism and then turn around an hurl subtle racist bullshit at rappers supporting Sanders.
If I cared about every one of those implied, implicit, explicit, or imagined slights, I would never venture on to any internet forums.

They reminded me of naughty children acting out to get attention. Very embarrassing.
There's more tolerance over and therefore less post hiding.

(26,355 posts)It's actually reasonably civil for Reddit, though that's because the mods there come down on shitposting like a ton of bricks.

(24,461 posts)The last time I went there, some of their neo-lib know-nothings were trying to essay trade their justification of economically sodomizing the poor to David Cay Johnston (author of Perfectly Legal and Free Lunch). God, some of the batshit, fact-void things those idiots believe . . . that thread just got worse with each painful post. It was thoroughly embarrassing.

Wow they sure are dumb and hateful.
I ventured into Discussionist, took a dive into
their word salad cesspool and jumped right out.
It's really gonna take all day and some strong bleach
to wash that GOP stuff off. Yuck.

(28,276 posts)The DI jury system is used more and more to harass and eliminate liberal posters. DI is far more right-wing than it used to be, particularly as to racial and sexual issues. I'm very grateful to have DU back in place.

(38,437 posts)This past fall, I had five posts hidden in the span of 15 minutes. I was offline at the time. A crew of assholes alerted about twenty of my posts and managed to finally get the fifth hidden. The final post of mine committed the sin of saying (to a white guy), "Well, my boy..." . I was alerted because "boy" is racist.
It's only a little bit better here.
