A Christian think tank is telling President Barack Obama that the wages of sin is death after he announced support for equal marriage rights for LGBT people.
Family Research Council (FRC) a hate group, according the the Southern Poverty Law Center has asked pastors around the country to sign a letter to Obama, complaining that he had used the presidential bully pulpit to promote a lifestyle choice that the Bible not only deems as sinful, but has also proven to be harmful.
You cited the Golden Rule when you made your announcement, the letter notes. We are offended that you would use the Bibles Golden Rule as a rationale for supporting behavior that the Bible clearly calls sin and even an abomination.
It continues: We believe that the wages of sin is death (Rom. 6:23). So how does the Golden Rule apply to those engaging in not only sinful, but also harmful behaviors? If a person truly lives by the Golden Rule, and treats people the way he/she wants to be treated, that person will not promote what is harmful-not only to those who participate in the behavior but also to those who are impacted by its embrace.

(153 posts)Since he and his organization have a long history of doing just that. . .what are the wages of engaging in such deception, Mr. Perkins? Let alone, impersonating a "Christian" think tank?

(82,849 posts)My recollection is that lying is against one of the big ten that Perkins and his ilk want to inscribe on every wall and every rock that isn't moving on public land. As for Perkins and his exegesis of scripture, I disagree with his interpretation; I further disagree that those verses he and his pals are so fond of citing have anything to do with our modern understanding of human sexuality, and as such are wholly inapposite to the situation at hand. That being said, do Perkins and his buddies have anything else to base their bigotry on?

45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?
48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Rev Tony, try reading about the Church of Ephesus in the book of Revelation, they were all hot on rules and doctrine...short on the message.
