According to the poll, Trump is now at 38%, well ahead of Ted Cruz at 15%, with Marco Rubio and Ban Carson next at 12%.
In a hypothetical general election matchup, Clinton leads Trump 53-40 among all adults, and 50-44 among registered voters.

Essentially, it looks as if Trump's comments about Muslims coming to the US have made him even more popular among the GOP base. I'll admit I was wrong-- I never thought he would make it this far, but at this point I've stopped doubting his staying power.

(62,276 posts)It was the first time I ever saw him read a statement from a piece of paper. He always rants on in his own Apprentice Style speeches but when he read that very carefully worded hit piece on new Muslims entering the country I knew it had to have been copy-tested. They reached out to conservative voters and asked them what they wanted to truly hear, and it was at the top of the list.
Expect more outrageous shit as the primaries draw nearer.

(17,340 posts)So, here's something to remember when looking at his poll numbers: Trump has the support of about 30% of likely Republican primary voters; pollsters usually peg "likely voters" at a bit over 60% in the general, but assume a freakishly high primary turnout, say seventy percent; then recall that self-identified Republicans are roughly 41% of all Americans.
0.3x0.7x0.41=0.0861
That's a bit under nine percent of the country, at a very generous estimate. Now remind yourself that eight percent of Americans believe the moon landings were faked. So.....
