(11,138 posts)If you don't, and we both know you don't, you cannot judge whether it was the right decision. You are just being an internet flibbertigibbet.

(13,877 posts)they'd have to be locked away for kid safety, and by the time the first terrorist (white, black, Muslim, Asian) shots ring out, their job is to get the kids to safety. Now try and get that gun out to protect yourself and your class.

(13,877 posts)Hey, he cut in front of me...Bam. He tried to copy my paper...Bam He dissed my brother...Bam. Oh, the list could go on and on. Then there are the sports games...OMG. The OU/OSU game would change from it's current description...Bedlam to Bloodshed. (That's Oklahoma U and Oklahoma State U...highly heated rivalry)
Now, to bring it full circle, give the schools the gun concession and of course the ammo, and make a profit...budgets being what they are. Fewer students, more profits, good for business.
They might have to tussle with the NRA, but just reminding them how many new members they could recruit would probably take care of that. Heck, have a Rep sitting next to the Salesperson at the Gun Concession and sign them up right there. Register them and renew every two years
But wait, there's more...Once a week the auditorium gets set up for shooting practice and training (don't forget gun safety).
OK, maybe a bit over-dramatized...but sometimes taking some idiotic idea to its ridiculous extreme makes a point. Or, not.

This bothers you why?

(90,714 posts)I saw this day coming not long after 9-11.
Dubya got one (1) thing right: he told us not to persecute the Muslims living here.
Everything else he got dead wrong in terms of actual courage: the entire message stream was "Terra, terra, terra" and "Be afraid; be very afraid." There was/is an entire media empire devoted to right wingnut messaging, and a tv series ("Homeland" that justified torture if you are just skeered enough.
The British, who have endured enough terrorism to know what they are talking about, said, "Keep calm and carry on."
The French, who have endured terrorism as well, displayed sangfroid. After the recent Paris attacks, one young woman said she and her friends were going to go out to celebrate Beaujolais Nouveau Day as planned, as she put it, to drink alcohol and enjoy life and in general do what the fanatics despise.
But at the moment, here in California, the blood has hardly dried in San Berdoo, it is the third anniversary of Sandy Hook, and these are our children. This we have to get right.

End of story, indeed.

(9,073 posts)They are not going to take any chances so closely after. Makes sense to me. Plus it will calm the parents who would be suing and raising hell if the city didn't do anything.

(1,786 posts)We have created.
You can say NYC handled it correctly and people can bash Sony for their actions concerning the release of that movie...
But if something had happened at even one theater or if something happens in NYC no one is or would be saying "Hey, it sucks that something happened and people got hurt or died... but good for you folks for being strong and not over reacting in fear to a threat"...
No, no, no people would be outraged that it was allowed to happen given the previous threat and the people in charge who decided to not give into fear and release the movie or not shut schools down would be out of a job and sued to into oblivion.
We can't have it both ways...
