Their front runner is a man who can legitimately be likened to Adolf Hitler. Trump's speeches track frighteningly close to many of Hitler's. Some of his policy proposals are eerily reminiscent of Hitler's.
But more than the Hitler comparisons, consider the woo-woo he has posited. The birther thing that is now a few years old. His praise of professional wackadoodle, Alex Jones. The fomenting of scary, hate driven fervor at his rallies. His followers giving a (neo?)Nazi salute. His followers eat this up and that is part of why he does this. More frighteningly, I also think he believes this stuff.
This is a man far outside the mainstream and far, far outside the arena of acceptable deportment for a candidate for the leader of the United States of America. He is as fringe as fringe gets. What are his positions on vaccines? Chem trails? False flag attacks?
He is a living study in nutty.
The GOP could take one on the chin and at the same time show the country they are NOT the Party of Woo.
Tell Trump he is no longer a Republican. Kick him out of the party. He's not going to win anyhow, so there really little for them to lose - except a lot of voters who are as crazy-assed as Trump.
This would be a good time for them to clean house totally. Kick out the teabaggers. Kick out the racists. Send Louie Gohmert and his ilk packing, too. Let them form some other party. Reduce the Republican caucus to serious people. Kick the kooks out and bar them from the caucus.
Yes, reasonable Republicans seem to be in short supply when you look at the kooks from the gerrymandered districts. So maybe when we get to redistricting again, they can find common cause with other reasonable people, like sane Democrats, maybe, to draw honest, competitive districts, not the kind that keep incumbents in who don't represent the electorate. Gerrymandered districts allow the kooks, nutters, Klansmen, and - yes - weak Democrats, to stay in office.
Sure, they'll lose this election, but they need to look to the future of the COUNTRY, not their hold on power.
I expect they have no honor and will not do the honorable thing. They will support Trump, no matter what he does. They will all be "Good Germans."
