http://www.dailykos.com/stories/2015/12/13/1458098/-The-privileged-idiocy-of-Just-let-the-Republicans-winBut privileged idiots apparently dont remember recent history, and how well such petulance worked out in 2000, when some hoped suffering through a Bush presidency would fix the Democratic Party. And privileged idiots either don't understand or don't care to understand what real suffering is. There are exceptions to almost every rule, but you don't hear much privileged idiocy coming from African-Americans or Latinos or young women whose lives may be endangered if Roe v. Wade were repealed or overturned. You also don't hear much of it from climate scientists.
When I saw this Salon headline by a self-described Bernie Sanders supporter referring to the possibility of a Hillary Clinton nomination, I assumed the writer was just another privileged idiot.
Just let the Republicans win: Maybe things need to get really bad before America wakes up
A GOP victory would bring disaster. Perhaps thats necessary to destroy their credibility and wake up Democrats
To most people who are both intelligent and capable of empathy, the word disaster is a red flag. Disasters are to be avoided. Disasters are bad things. People suffer during disasters. One can be unhappy that we are not living in a utopia without deliberately courting disasterif one is intelligent and capable of empathy.

(4,713 posts)Gotta love it. I saw this a Kos & it is directed to all the HA HA Goodman fans, even though it was another blathering idiot of the same cloth that the author was referring to.

(13,616 posts)and the Naderites can yell all they want to, they exercised their privilege and as a result, thousands here and abroad got KILLED. Not inconvenienced, KILLED.

(10,007 posts)Pinning the responsibility for Bush on a small number of Nader voters is counter-productive.
DonCoquixote
(13,616 posts)and yes, i know some dems voted bush, but Nader targeted Florida because he wanted to be a spoiler, and he was, and the reason it is not counterproductive is that is Trump does not get what he wants, he can try that same trick.

(10,007 posts)in favor of Reaganomics has generated disapproval and push-back from the liberal/progressive base. The Party's response is to bully us into voting for increasingly poor candidates. The more I get bullied by being called a "far leftist idiot" for recoiling from conservative economic policy, the more determined I am to find another Party to represent me.
I'm not alone.
If the Democratic Party wants liberal/progressive votes, then they need to champion liberal/progressive economic policy. Period. All the sneering in the world isn't going to heal the breach.

(13,616 posts)I hear both hard Hillary type and Nader types hit me with the same "gimme all I want or else yer screwed", I want progressive policy, but I also realize it needs to be sold to joe q public. I have not seen anyone do that, including sadly Sanders. Neither one of them Hillary or Sanders, managed deal with BLM in any good way other than to look arrogant. I want to heal the breach, but I want to stop the bleeding done in this nation.

(10,007 posts)We need people with political courage, not Eeyores who bemoan how nothing will work.

(13,616 posts)Cute, but I want people who will sell the policy to the masses. Sanders has NOT done that. Granted, I think Wareen could have, and probably will in 2020 when Hillary realizes that her crown is too heavy for her head.
Maedhros
(10,007 posts)More than any other candidate. Certainly more than Hillary.
Sanders has a huge social media presence and demonstrated cross-over appeal. Your assumption that he can't "sell" his message is just wishful thinking.

(53,475 posts)I believe the correct order of players who get the blame for the Failure Fuhrer's ascendancy are as follows:
Joe Lieberturd (REALLY horrible choice for VP, reprehensible not-so-deep cover Repub and worked wonders for convincing the "both parties are the same"ers)
Katherine Harris (Florida Fixer #1)
Sandra Day O'Connor (Mrs. 5-4 voted to install the Failure Fuhrer for purely selfish reasons)
Jeb Bewsh (Florida Fixer #2)
John Prescott Ellis (Faux plant, first called Florida for Bewsh)
Fox News (Started the "President Bush" rallying cry before the counting was finished)
Jack Welch (right-wing NBC CEO who demanded the station correct their Florida prediction and call the election for Bush)
. . . . and somewhere well below them would be Ralph Nader.

We will never know because those privilaged idiots won't even be missed on Election Day nor will they be here after the nomination. That's why they have to post their rot now.

(4,205 posts)Of the fact that I much prefer Bernie and do not in any way like Hillary if she is the candidate I will vote for her.... she is better than the opposition choice by magnitudes.

(3,411 posts)Republicans are the bad cop, so you MUST vote for the good cop democrats even if they are pretty much moderate republicans, or even socially liberal republicans (kinda like the Koch Brothers.)
AZ Progressive
(3,411 posts)push them around. Republicans and DLC Democrats are more strategic and aggressive than liberals / progressives, and politics is a dog eat dog world.
TBH, this is one of the most aggravating things about being progressive to me.
