Having been provided a sample syllabus for the course, Franklin said she was concerned the curriculum would not be inclusive of all perspectives.
"I believe it <the course> is partly as a result of what's going on with the Confederate flag and folks saying we need to give kids some more insight into the history, which I think is a good thing, but I don't believe what I have seen is going to reflect what the African American experience in Appalachia is and has been," Franklin said.
Franklin said she would like to see more details on what could be planned to accurately represent that experience, including the mining culture and Christiansburg Industrial Institute ...
