A charity that was given a donation worth thousands of dollars by notorious pharmaceuticals entrepreneur Martin Shkreli has said it is giving the money back on moral grounds.
Amid public outrage and ridicule over drastically raising the price of a life-saving drug earlier this year, Shkreli, who is now facing criminal securities fraud charges and questions about his finances, tweeted that he gave millions to charity.
But on Friday Community Solutions, a homelessness charity, said it will give back the entire $15,000 it received from Shkreli. A spokesman for the New York-based organisation Jake Maguire, said the donors business practices were incompatible with its anti-poverty mission.
We serve people who depend on access to AIDS meds every day, and as an organization I dont think we can keep this money, Maguire said.

(22,974 posts)1. Sticking to their principles is admirable
but I would have kept the money and put it to good use.

So he can pay his attorneys for a couple of hours work?
I understand the principle, but it will do a lot more good with the charity.

There must be a lot of homeless people who can't buy needed prescription medicine due to their status. This would have helped immensely and would have made a bold statement on the organization's part.

Giving money back to him is counterproductive.
And it kind of fucks over people who need it.
