http://thechive.com/2015/11/25/couple-cancels-ritzy-wedding-for-syrian-family-5-photos/
Your wedding day is often considered the most important and often most expensive day of your life, but recently a couple decided some things are more important than an expensive ceremony and reception. They put the money that wouldve went to their big day into getting a Syrian family to safety in Canada.
The story goes that as they were planning to tie the knot, Samantha Jackson and Farzin Yousefian saw the now-famous photograph of the three-year-old Syrian boy who had drowned and washed up on a Turkish beach.
The couple decided they needed to do something to help and after a major shrinking down of their budget with a small city hall ceremony and meagre reception, they put $17,500 toward getting a Syrian family of four into Toronto. Because the cost of relocating Syrians to Canada can cost upwards of $27,000 to get four people safely there, instead of asking for wedding gifts, they asked for donations for the cause.
We realized how all the money we wouldve put to our wedding would be better used helping give Syrian refugee families the second chance they deserve, the bride said.
