I'm not a fan of beauty contests but I can't help but feel sorry for Miss Columbia. They should figure out some way to compensate her.

Recursion
(56,582 posts)It's made me a lot more interested in the whole thing because she's a really good blogger, and gives a lot of insight into what the process is like. (Her main take on this year was "why add gospel music to scantily-clad women, Fox?", until this fiasco happened; I expect a good long-form piece from her in a day or two on this whole shitshow.)

(108,995 posts)She's a really great writer, and works as a journalist now. I'll update as she does.

(55,894 posts)My girlfriend doesn't want to sound negative but gently told her niece that beauty comes from within and one's character is paramount.
My comments to J. were that it probably costs a ton of money and wouldn't she rather ask her parents for something like horseback riding or music lessons or a trip to Europe when she graduates. And I also cautioned that she might make friends in that world, but at the same time there's almost certainly fierce competition and back-stabbing going on.
But I am not as quick to "judge" women who get into pageantry. It's just an alien world to me. I never wear makeup except a very occasional touch of lipstick and heels are lethal for me.

(89,269 posts)if she doesn't take it too seriously . and she could become some c list celeb and will be famous more and longer than if no mistake had been made.
she can get on some shitty reality shows and extend her fame a bit.

(14,449 posts)It actually ruined both contestants night. The real winner really couldn't get excited and was confused over the whole thing. Trump is right make it a co-winner situation. Trump of course said, "see what happens when I'm not involved". Lol. He sure loves himself.

(6,625 posts)So much so that my partner was sure it was a set-up. She couldn't believe anybody could screw it up that badly. Steve Harvey can certainly kiss that gig goodbye.
I'm not a big proponent of lawsuits as panacea, but I think that in this case Miss Colombia has a valid claim for mental anguish, or something like that. Humiliation and crushing disappointment in front of a mass audience? Priceless ...

(5,818 posts)albeit likely an accidental one, IMO. Judging from the infotainment coverage I've seen already, Steve Harvey has turned an event that would largely have been ignored into a top "news" item on virtually every network.

(51,308 posts)Trump was interviewed about the fiasco, and he suggested they both be named co-winners in order to compensate poor Miss Columbia.
First good idea I've ever heard from him.
Probably the last too lol.
