ABC News: A 24-year-old woman accused of driving a car on a sidewalk and through a crowd on the Las Vegas Strip, killing one and injuring over 30 others, wouldn't tell police why she drove on the sidewalk, but did say she remembered a body bouncing off her windshield and breaking it, the arrest report reveals.

Lakeisha Holloway, believed to be from Oregon, will be charged with one count of murder with the use of a deadly weapon in connection with Sunday's crash...She may face additional charges including multiple counts of attempted murder with the use of a deadly weapon, child abuse and neglect, and leaving the scene of an accident...

Holloway said she...had been in Las Vegas for about a week and living in a car...She said it was her car, but the car was registered to another person in Oregon...

ABC News: Holloway previously lived in Oregon, where she changed her name in October to Paris Paradise Morton, according to court records.

Several years ago, she graduated from an alternative high school in Portland and received an award for overcoming adversity from the nonprofit Portland Opportunities Industrialization Center, which helps at-risk youths with education and job training.

After her arrest Sunday, she told investigators she was homeless and out of money, and sleeping in her car in casino parking garages. She said she was getting little rest because casino security would run her off. She might have been on her way to Texas to find the estranged father of her daughter, authorities said.

Holloway showed no resistance when police arrived, and she spoke coherently about what happened, the sheriff said. A police drug-recognition expert said it appeared she wasn't drunk but may have been under the influence of a stimulant...

TMZ: Lakeisha Holloway has not had a reliable place to live since January 2014 since she was evicted from her apartment in Washington state...(L)egal docs show...she was behind on rent and utilities and a judge ordered her out. Family members tell TMZ they opened their homes to Lakeisha from time to time in the last 2 years, but she never had a permanent place to live....

(W)e're told she had just been in Texas to visit her 3-year-old daughter's baby daddy and (had) told her family she was going through Vegas on her way back to Oregon to see if there were work opportunities. As we reported, she told police she was not able to get a decent night's sleep in Vegas during the week preceding the crash...

Sheria Agum, (one) of Holloway's cousins, said...that Holloway had been staying in Texas until recently, but upon her return to the West coast she noticed a change in her character: 'I have never seen my cousin like that. Her whole attitude changed. She was having problems down there. When she came back she was different'.

According to The Skanner News, Holloway had been homeless during her freshman year in high school and was left to fend for herself due to an alcoholic mother...

Students Get a Standing Ovation at POIC Work Opportunities Breakfast

Portland Opportunities Industrial Center drew a crowd of supporters to...its annual Work Connections Breakfast...Business leaders, including contingents from Intel, Nike, and Oregon Live, turned out in force and gave a standing ovation to two students receiving CARE Role model awards...The emcee for the event was former NBA point guard and coach Michael Holton.

Lakeisha Holloway, a graduate, received a CARE Role Model award...(She) described being homeless during her freshman year in high school and explained that her mother had lost hope after struggling many years to earn a living with only an 8th Grade education. More and more she had turned to alcohol, leaving Lakeisha to fend for herself. Yet with the help of POIC, Holloway is a graduate pursuing a career in the forest service.



"I would like to thank the Forest Service for sending me an application and taking a chance on me," she said. "And I'd like to thank POIC for the love and support and for being more than a program, for being a blessing."

KGW.com: (Holloway) was also featured in a POIC video as “a case study in resilience” after starting college and getting a job with the U.S. Forest Service. “Today I am not the same scared girl I used to be. I am a mature young woman who has broken many generational cycles that those before hadn’t,” she said in the video. “Being homeless and struggling on my own taught me to stand on my own two feet. I managed to land a federal job at age 21 – now that is what I call living the grand life.”

U.S. Forest Service spokesman Glen Sachet said Holloway worked for them starting in 2009 and took a 4-month break in 2010. She was performing administrative functions for the agency before resigning in 2012...Court records show Holloway was charged in Multnomah County in 2011 with operating a vehicle without driving privileges and driving uninsured. She was convicted in March 2012.

In 2013, Holloway started to grow distant from people she knew...POIC said she cut off her involvement with them around that time...Holloway's cousin...Sheria Agum...(said Holloway) changed her phone number shortly after that, and “went off the radar.” She added that, around that same time, Holloway visited Texas...“I have never seen my cousin like that. Her whole attitude changed...When she came back she was different,” Agum said...

(A) judge granted (her) permission...to change her name to Paris Paradise Morton...less than two months ago...Holloway, now 24, had a Portland address up until one week ago, and also lived in Vancouver for a short time...But in December of 2015, Holloway was once again out on the streets - this time, living out of a car with her own young daughter in Las Vegas...
