Audio: Cop, Security Guard Agree New Mexico Governor Was Drunk During Hotel Tantrum
If you really are only as old as you feel, then audio released today by Santa Fe police regarding a little hotel pizza party that got out of hand indicates that New Mexico governor Susana Martinez is... maybe 17 years old.
The tapes (via the NM Political Report) capture calls placed to 911 about a loud party early Sunday morning at the Eldorado Hotel & Spa in the states capital. In one call, a front desk clerk asks a dispatcher to send officers to the hotel to remove the noisemakers from the premises. The other two calls feature Martinez, who identifies herself as the states governor, interrogating various officers, dispatchers and hotel employees about why police had been sent to respond to the noise complaints. ....
In listening to New Mexico governor Susan Martinez argue with and vaguely threaten officers and security personnel who responded a noise complaint coming from her hotel room after her staffs holiday party, one unconfirmed assumption could reasonably have been made: The governor was drunk.
Not hammered, out-of-control wasted, but definitely somewhere in the neighborhood of tipsy. Police who attended to the situation at the Eldorado Hotel & Spain which it was believed that people in Martinezs room were throwing bottles from the balcony, a claim she strenuously deniesdeclined to file a report, and thus do not appear to have given Martinez a breathalyzer. But in further audio, released today by the City of Santa Fe, this time from an officers belt loop recorder, a hotel security guard and the officer both agree on what seemed obvious: the governor was drunk (via NM Political Report).

(50,254 posts)Martinez deserves to become irrelevant for this, but we don't want to get into arguing that people can now claim "conservative brown skin privilege". That just takes us to a place nobody wants to go.

(13,081 posts)That the Republucans are looking, desperately, for a Latino Vice P candidate. She was a name floated pretty heavily (she's seen as a twofer -- Latina and female), but my money is on Sandoval in Nevada. Popular-ish governor, former federal judge (put there by Reid to take him off the other team's roster), squeaky clean, not a total moron.
Probably not germane to the OP's title , but still worth talking about.
