Donald Trump holds commanding lead over the GOP field (latest poll way ahead of Cruz)

Donald Trump is heading into 2016 with a commanding lead over the GOP field at 39% support, more than double that of his closest competitor, Ted Cruz, a new CNN/ORC poll Wednesday has found.

Cruz picked up 2 percentage points and now sits at 18%, while both Ben Carson and Marco Rubio have lost ground.

Republicans are coming around to the idea that the GOP has its best shot for winning the presidency by nominating the New York real estate mogul. Overall, 46% of voters say the Republicans have a better chance to win in 2016 with Trump as the party’s nominee, while 50% say the GOP has a better chance with someone else at the top of the ticket. In August, just 38% said Trump brought the Republicans their best chance

Trump is for real. His supporters are not going to melt away.

The Democratic opposition must be a candidate who isn't seen socializing with him, mouthing similar proposals, and taking his money or money from people of his class.

Feel the Bern!

I'd pick Trump. He might be a raving lunatic most of the time, but at least he doesn't want to turn this into a theocracy. You know when Trump shows up with a Bible it's just a prop. Cruz doesn't want to be POTUS, he wants to be head televangelist.

Don't be silly. She's not my preferred candidate, but at least she's not a total crackpot.

I am someone who likes both Hillary and Bernie and would vote for either one with great enthusiasm.

I've been disheartened by Bernie supporters who imply they might not vote for Hillary and Hillary supporters who imply they might not vote for Bernie (not just on DU, but also in real life)

I know it's primary time and folks are passionate about their preferred candidate, but I think it is so important that we all rally together behind whoever ends up being the Democratic nominee to defeat Trump, Cruz, or whatever other lunatic they nominate.
