Meet The Republican Who Made The Worst Rape Comment Ever

http://www.addictinginfo.org/2014/02/28/lockman-worst-republican-rape-comment/

Last July, I compiled a list of 40 of the worst things Republicans have ever said about rape. I thought I had seen and heard the worst of such statements. Boy, was I wrong. Apparently, a sitting GOP state representative in Maine actually topped all of these horrible quotes all the way back in 1995.

Maine state Rep. Lawrence Lockman is finding out the hard way that past statements can come back to haunt you. Almost 20 years ago, as a member of the Pro Life Education Association, Lockman argued that because women have abortion rights, men should be free to rape women.

“If a woman has (the right to an abortion), why shouldn’t a man be free to use his superior strength to force himself on a woman?” Lockman said in a press statement. “At least the rapist’s pursuit of sexual freedom doesn’t (in most cases) result in anyone’s death.”

Yeah, you read that right. Lockman actually said that men should legally be allowed to rape women as some sort of sick and twisted notion of reproductive rights. The offensive statement was discovered by blogger Mike Tipping, who then posted the comment and others to the Bangor Daily News website .

they want these fine folks occupying elected offices? okay, then as a party they can enjoy the fruits of such statements in a country where 58% of the electorate supports women's unfettered access to abortions.

Men have mothers, sisters, daughters, etc; I really doubt they can endorse rape at the ballot box.

There is no "Well, that's not civilized" or "That is not how we do things, we are not barbarians"

In 1995, that was the time.

I mean, you have to admit, it's a pretty high bar, the combination of "worst Republican rape comment."

(Or maybe a pretty low bar... in any case, helluva challenge.)

But... just... Wow.

Getcher patriarchy here, naked and unashamed, howling with misogynist rage....

Few years back there was a letter to the editor in our local paper from a good God fearing man who said that if a man rapes a woman and the woman becomes pregnant that she should have to marry the man who raped her. According to him rape was always the woman fault for tempting the man. This guy was one very sick God fearing man!
