In other news...Lake Michigan's turning killer tomorrow...18 foot waves predicted

to result from 55 mph winds around the Chicago and NE IL shore. Damage to piers and adjacent structures is expected.

Please, don't let your life be a storm statistic. If things around your place are not put away or tied down... do it today.

Nasty windy, icy weather for NE IL and Southern WI--In SE WI we expect one of those major power outage ~inch or so accumulations of freezing rain.sleet.

This could be a repeat of the 1965 Ice-storm it's a day to be sure your are ready for long periods without power.

North of Navy Pier and south of Grant Park there isn't much of the shore protected by break-water structures. Sometimes the crash of waves splashes 3 stories high. It's spectacular out on the harbor break-water, it's scary as hell when it happens on the side of a street.

I'd sure like to see it. What's on the other side of the street?

We're expecting a winter storm up here tomorrow in Northern Michigan. Freezing rain, a layer of ice, then wet heavy snow. Not sure how much.

People up here are still cleaning up the trees & debris from the high winds the other night. Oooh, they we're bad.

I went to the store about an hour ago, & saw a parade of 8 power trucks going somewhere, or getting ready for predicted power outages.

Stay safe, or better yet, stay inside if you can.

on the third floor, after splashing up 10 feet just to get to street level.

I expect Wisconsin Energy to be getting ready, too. As always how ugly it get depends on the exact storm track. I don't -have- to be anywhere tomorrow, if it looks bad, I'll be hunkered down and glad not to be expected to make it to a time clock pr keep an appointment.

Sleep in, read a good book, watch a movie, bake some cookies, but tonight: charge your phone just in case.

and saw this happen often. There are two sides to it. When those waves freeze in formation along the shoreline they are very beautiful.

Really pretty as the wind had blown the edges of the ice into whisps that included pink to maroonish stains from rust and ore.

On the other hand a couple hundred pounds of ice-cold splash hitting a person walking the shore paths to work could be pretty dangerous. I saw video of a jogger trapped among breaking waves on the northshore path a few years back.

Though something like that may be a concept for a new sci-fi thriller...gigantic snakeheads produced by radiation leaks at lakeside power plant... there was a terrific old B-grade Sci-Fi movie about giant-grasshoppers attacking Chicago starring Peter Graves as the hot-shot young entomologist, the community might be ready for it...especialy if the snakeheads look a bit like Rahm.

he had the powerlines and every other line buried deep.. 2008 ice storm then the 2009 wind storm convinced him of it. Centurylink was pissed off but he did it. so was Mediacom they refused to. So if the cable / internet goes out ours probably won't unless it hits the one going into the city and thats easier to fix than bombing around the city for it.

but it's great that Chicago is protected from such. That required quite an investment. Surprising considering the state of the economy.
