Updated forecast calls for 5 to 7 inches of snow (first pix now posted)

Marta and I are making sure the bird and squirrel feeders and birdbaths remain accessible to all our friends. Even the darned starlings.

We will have new pix up soon. Last thursday's pix: http://www.democraticunderground.com/10027472788

Second & third photos down are a Tufted Titmouse. Technically we are just outside of their normal range. To the left you can just see the electric cord that keeps the birdbath from freezing.

Turns out, the snowstorm on Christmas Eve probably was just an opening act.

The bull's eye of a winter storm expected to hit the Omaha area today has shifted toward southern Iowa, the National Weather Service says, but 5 to 7 inches of snow still is likely to fall across the metro.

Katie Gross, a weather service meteorologist, said snowfall should begin between 7 a.m. and 8 am. and continue through early Tuesday morning. It's going to stay cold, with high temperatures expected to reach only the low to mid-20s.

Gross warned of wind gusts as high as 25 miles per hour that could cause visibility issues and drifting snow. People should stay home if they can, she said.
