Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg left no tip after Rome lunch

He may be worth $20 billion, but when Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg took his new wife to lunch during their secret honeymoon in Rome he spent just 32 euros (£26) – and did not leave a tip.

The owners of the kosher restaurant in Rome's Jewish Ghetto – a historic quarter in the centre of the city – were surprised when Mr Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan walked away without leaving a gratuity.

Their bill came to just 32 euros after a lunch consisting of deep-fried artichokes – a Roman Jewish speciality – fried pumpkin flowers and ravioli stuffed with sea bass and artichokes.

Instead of wine or beer they opted for a bottle of water and a pot of tea.

Zuckerberg should always tip at least 30% whether theres a "service" fee or not. He has 20 Billion dollars, he can afford it.

To round up to 30%, unless I have had horrible service. It is customary to tip over the service charge for good service. However, wait staff in EU countries actually make a REAL WAGE, and most have affordable health care.

I actually once got the service charge taken OFF my bill in London. It was the worst service I have ever had, I mean, atrocious. The waiter disappeared for literally 45 minutes, and our food was stone cold when we received it. And was the wrong food.

Having said that, I have had people in European countries (and Britain!) tell me they hold Americans who tip too much in contempt, and I had a waitress in Germany pinch my cheek and tell me she loved Americans, because they reward hard work and good service (she liked the tip).

Zuck should have tipped more.

Typically, waiters are better paid there and the custom is either not to tip or tip exceptional service but not customary service.

but has since declared himself an atheist.

So leaving a Jewish diner without leaving a tip underscores his cheapness. I don't mean to suggest you only tip in restaurants with whom you have some religious, ethnic or other affiliation but still.

And I don't believe the part about him being an atheist. He has just replaced the spiritual God of the Jews, Yahweh, with money. It is the Republican's favorite God. They use the spiritual ones as an excuse to demonize everyone else but their true, only god is MONEY.

That's why they are slowly coalescing around their new god, RMoney = Republican Money or Republican God since Money = God to them.

He's had money for quite a few years now and has undoubtedly gone out to eat numerous times....so what if he didn't leave a tip once, either for bad service or maybe he DID leave a tip on the table or maybe he just forgot. He's human. I'm sure glad my every move isn't scrutinized like his....that's probably not worth the billions of $$$ right there.

When my wife and I honeymooned in Italy (which we're still paying off btw) we rarely tipped as well. We even left a tip at once place and had the waiter refuse.

Rome's been finding ways of milking tourists for 2000 years, and based on my limited experience they have ways of extracting extra money in restaurant charges. - that's why they have the bread charge, whether you want it or not (the 3 euro charge for pane). In places that have service included, though, I usually round up - it makes for better service on return visits.
