http://www.salon.com/2015/12/29/keshas_horrifying_nightmare_and_the_adele_comparison_from_sony_that_goes_way_beyond_acceptable/Put short:
The singer Kesha is suing her producer Dr Luke in court with claims that he raped her.
She wants to continue making music, just not with him.
She wants to be released from her contract with Sony.
She wants this situation settled as soon as possible, before her career suffers permanent damage.
In a recent statement, the company claimed that being stonewalled by her label is actually a good thing for Kesha. The singer filed an injunction with the court to expedite the case, worried that time off might harm her career. But Sony insists thats hardly the case: In court documents leaked by TMZ, Sony claimed that years away from the recording studio helped DAngelo and Justin Timberlake mount impressive comebacks. The company argued that Kesha could be the next Adele.
The spin is so insidious that the sleight of hand all but escaped mention in the pressbecause who doesnt love Adele right now? After the Grammy-winning success of 21, which launched three No. 1 singles, the British singer waited four years to release another EP. That album, 25, has broken every record in the book since bowing in November. Her third album sold an unbelievable 3 million copies in its first weekat a time when people dont buy CDs anymore.
But the reason Adele took that lengthy hiatus was to have her first child (who was born in 2012) and build a new family with her husband. In an Instagram post published before the release of 25, the singer wrote, Sorry it took so long, but you know, life happened. It absolutely was not to escape her alleged rapist, and to equate the two is appalling.

Not that you need any more examples of the Music Industry being morally corrupt but lord almighty that's awful.

(82,849 posts)2. Sony doesn't realize there's a difference?
Taking a hiatus because an artist wants to is quite a bit different from taking a hiatus because an artist has to in order to avoid contact with her rapist. Maybe Sony should be prohibited from selling any of its products in the United States? Sure, their bottom line would suffer for a little while, but think how impressive their comeback would be in 2020 or 2030?
