The Elmer Gantry charade of Donald Trump...

He takes his 'childhood Bible" to Iowa as proof that he is a bonafide Evangelical. He waves it about as if it were last week's People magazine.

Also, he reminds that voters of Iowa that not many Evangelicals come from Cuba, once again bringing up an issue that no one else would even think of doing, Mr Cruz's foreign descent. He may as well be an "illegal alien"...

But, will the Christians of Iowa fall for this charlatan? Will this schmuck be able to sell his schtick to the people that go to the caucuses?

To me he's more Andy Griffith in A Face in the Crowd. That movie is a perfect representation of him. Squinch Dec 2015 #1

The comparison to Elmer Gantry is quite apt. It also seems to me that Trump has become the modern incarnation of Buzz Windrip, the fascist demagogue who rises to power in Lewis's 1935 novel, "It Can't Happen Here".

And look at their newest Senator, the one who campaigned on cutting the ball off of hawgs, Jodi Whassername.

I wouldn't put anything past Iowa Republicans.
