Jeb Bush Blames Obama for Rise of Trump

Jeb Bush called Donald Trump "a creature of Barack Obama" in the latest example of the former governor's ever-present frustration with the billionaire businessman during an interview with NPR.

"But for Barack Obama, Donald Trump's effect would not be nearly as strong as it is," Bush said.

The comments come as Bush continues his full assault on Trump over the past several weeks questioning everything from his rival's seriousness to intellectual prowess. However, Bush expressed optimism to NPR that "the emotion of the here and now" with Trump "will subside."

The explosion of ugly RW racism certainly has given Trump something to run with...

Both started as a ploy to attract a certain voter. Each bloomed completely out of control. We all pay the price. Rethugs have been goading and baiting the simple minded Americans for over 16 years. These folks are now flat out, out of control and armed. Good luck putting the genie back in the bottle!

...right. What bothers me is that these people doing this either 1) are unable to anticipate long term consequences of their actions/ choices (like a child), or 2) don't care about the consequences and are only grabbing for what they want. Selfishly.
Neither is good for our country.

Know your BFEE: Cheney, Rumsfeld, Ford Covered Up CIA Murder of American Scientist

The Frank Olson Murder

Frank Olson was an American citizen, born in 1910 and murdered in New York City in 1953 by the CIA. Here's an outline of the case:
Fort Detrick is the U.S. Army's biowarfare facility, founded in 1943. Frank Olson was one of the first scientists to work there. From the final years of World War II through the Korean War and up to the present time scientists at Fort Detrick developed biological weapons including anthrax.

Following the end of World War II the U.S. conducted "Operation Paperclip", which scoured Germany for Nazi scientists who could be useful. It found some who had conducted experiments on prisoners in Dachau and other Nazi concentration camps, including one Kurt Blome. He was among the defendants in the Nuremberg War Trials, and would have been convicted and hanged but for American intervention. In return for agreeing to provide information to the Americans about his experiments in Dachau, and advice in the development of their own germ warfare program, an acquittal was arranged, and he escaped the gallows.

Frank Olson and Kurt Blome (who had become a protegé of the Americans) later met at Camp King in Germany in the early 1950s when Olson made several visits there to participate in "Operation Artichoke", in which the U.S. Army and the CIA experimented with the use of drugs (including LSD) in interrogation. Olson was present during brutal interrogations by the Americans of Soviet prisoners and suspected double agents, some of whom died under torture. Olson was deeply disturbed by what he had seen.

One of Dr. Olsen's children is a DUer. Haven't seen a post for a while, but I know DU matters to them because it helps do what the media don't: Tell the truth about their father. From what I have read, he was a good guy used, if not durgged and murdered, by his country.

The United States is wracked by a spasm of anti-cosmopolitanism and fear of radical subversion. It is exemplified, for many Americans by the election and presidency of Obama himself: black, yet biracially cosmopolitan, urban, intellectual, raised partly in a Muslim country, and the abandoned son of a Kenyan activist and academic. Millions of conservatives still suspect him of being un-Christian and, literally, not a native-born American qualified to serve as president. That Obama’s election occurred simultaneously with the largest economic contraction since the Great Depression exacerbated these cultural tensions.

The current conflict is a continuation of one over the past century in the United States between what the historian Gary Gerstle has called the racial nationalism of blood and ethnic supremacy (ethno-nationalists) and a more expansive civic nationalism which promises a common political project of equal rights and respect for all. America has seen expressions of both racial and civic nationalism in its history—both are quintessentially American articulations of political power and hierarchy. Yet these different national projects—one culturally and ethnically homogeneous, the other inclusive of differences, yet seeking to subsume them into a “Party of America”, in political theorist Rogers Smith’s words

Obama today embodies the fears of ethno-nationalists and the (often-disappointed) hopes of civic nationalists ...

It is not right to "blame" Obama for the rise of Trump but the election of Obama represents much of what the republican base is afraid of.
