and that the Isis freaks would come to the west and implied that the whole GWOT and everything it entailed would start up again.

I was reasurred by other DUers that everything was okay, we got this, nothing to see here move along.

to terrorists, by fearing muslims, immigrants, even weird people? I think certainly there are voices in the mainstream media who most definitely DO want us to capitulate psychologically and socially.

then even if people are feeling terror, it is - in fact - capitulation to a terrorist's goal to feed popular feelings of terror. It's profitable for many, but it is DEEPLY shameful and HIGHLY irresponsible, IMO, to misuse your position and power in a society (the mainstream media's Fourth Estate function) in order to feed it further.

The politicians, the corporate media and MIC are responsible for this absolute mess. They are attempting to frighten everyone. The really good news is that the vast majority of Americans don't hear a fugging word they're spewing.

Terror by itself is pointless. It's like curtailing liberties. Simply not the end goal.

Submission or surrender is the name of the game, literally. A Muslim has (voluntarily, in principle) submitted or surrendered to God. Others need to follow the hierarchy--convert and voluntarily submit to God or surrender to their betters. For the Salafist, the hierarchy is Allah > Muslim > people of the book > others, Allah > men > women > (young) children. Etc. That's what a well ordered society is like.

Making you feel bad because you can't speak freely or can't watch brightly colored explosions in the sky? Nopity.

That's why I almost never do anything on New Year's. There are very, very realistic fears to be had tonight -- and fears of terrorism may be more valid in large cities (or Vegas, known for the NYE party) -- but people need to take a step back and reevaluate what makes them afraid.

Do people realize how many random or semi-random stabbings will put people in emergency rooms tonight? Not to mention shootings? Or people killed by celebratory gunfire or fireworks gone rogue?

This isn't the one percent. This is a relatively few very malign people who have conglomerated and are trying to attract other malign individuals, with some success.

I'd like to see a couple trillion dollars worth of resources invested into the development of alternative sources of energy, instead of being squandered on a bogus 'war on terror'. The destruction of the biosphere poses a real threat to civilization, whereas terrorism does not.
