Trump: I won’t rule out spying on Israel if elected president

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump does not rule out spying on Israel if elected, he said in an interview aired Sunday, but maintained he “would certainly not want to do it.”

In an interview on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” Trump addressed the Wall Street Journal report last week that maintained the Obama administration had spied on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s lobbying efforts against the Iran nuclear deal.

“I would certainly not want to do it, but I have to say this. We’re being spied on by everybody,” Trump said. “I would say that I would leave open possibilities of doing whatever it takes to make our country very, very strong and to make our country great again.”

Sen. Bernie Sanders would “absolutely” end sweeping surveillance powers at the National Security Agency, he said during the first Democratic presidential debate on Tuesday.

Without going into detail about his intentions for the agency, the Vermont Independent, who identifies as a democratic socialist, trumpeted his status as one of the few congressional opponents of the Patriot Act in the wake of the 9/11.

“I'd shut down what exists right now — is that virtually every telephone call in this country ends up in a file at the NSA,” Sanders said. “That is unacceptable to me.”

Report: NSA recorded members of Congress with Israeli leaders

The National Security Agency's (NSA) continued surveillance of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israeli leaders may also have swept up private conversations involving members of Congress, the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday night.

I'm positive we are checking out every country. Is the Donald trying to introduce a new idea? If so, he is a little behind the times.

This is not covered under the patriot act, and was not done by the nsa. It has always been legal to spy on foreign countries.

Mr Trump likes to keep his options as open as the vacuum between his ears.
