Vermonters are preparing to give Trump a Vermont style "welcome" this week

tRump booked the beloved Flynn Theater in Burlington last week for one of his rallies. I suspect tRump is clueless about politics here. Vermont is not New Hampshire. Vermont is the state where he has the least amount of support, and that's not only true of democrats. Top republicans hastily distanced themselves from him. The VT RC put out a statement saying they had nothing to do with his upcoming visit. Here's what a VT republican elder statesman had to say:

Now in 2015, the time has come again for Vermont Republicans to speak out against a demagogue.

Many of my fellow Republicans have hoped, so far in vain, that the Donald Trump phenomena that has infected some elements of our national party would die out like a transient strain of Ebola. But Trump’s escalating torrent of verbal bullying, incredibly, has coincided with an increase in his early-voting-state support. Today we see in a candidate for the Republican nomination for the presidency the same tone of demagoguery that so alarmed Aiken and Flanders more than a half century ago. Throughout this campaign season, I have made it clear that I agree with so many of my fellow Vermont Republicans who, like me, will not support a bully, a bigot and a buffoon for the highest office in the land.

Word is that quite a few of the free tickets have been reserved by protesters.

At least three demonstrations or candlelight vigils against Trump have been planned to coincide with the event on Thursday evening, according to social media posts.

One protest may line Williston Road and Main Street into Burlington. Other protests are planned in City Hall Park and at the corner of Main and St. Paul streets.

David Zuckerman, a Progressive and Democratic state senator from Chittenden County, encouraged these demonstrations to remain peaceful.

“Yelling or shouting or being angry back only builds on the downward spiral of anger,” Zuckerman said in a Facebook post, suggesting that Vermonters’ response to Trump would reflect on Sanders’ presidential campaign.

The activist organization Vermont Workers' Center started an online petition asking the Flynn Center to cancel the event, which the activists called "an affront to our values as residents of Burlington."

But I want the candidates to go because you never know whose minds you can change. Obviously I hope trump changes none. But I hope our democratic candidates can change some everywhere.

He'll use it to garner media attention. If there are protests by Vermont liberals his base will love it.

Vermont is a very different place when it comes to "across the aisle" political dialogue. All sides are almost always civil and we base our discussions on issues. That`s what Vermonters expect and if someone goes outside the boundries of decency, they hear about it. It`s so refreshing to listen to civil political dialogue here.

My guess is that a hateful bully like Donald Trump won`t do well in Vermont, not even with Republicans.

but I meant his supporters via TV and via his twitter account that he uses to great effect. We'll see! I can see him painting them as a bunch of aging hippy treehuggers or some such. I'm a Goddard grad by the way so I resemble that remark
