If The House of Saud and Iran do go to war, can we PLEASE stay the #@%! out if it?

Both regimes are equally bad, and there can't be any positive outcome to either defeating the other.

I know our leaders tend to love pointless Mideast carnage festivals...but is it asking too much to ask if they can please do the sane thing and sit this one out, if it happens?

Like the Iraq War, like the 1953 CIA coup to depose Iranian nationalist President Mohammed Mossadegh, the US will always fight when one of the founding principles of this nation is at issue. Money.

I doubt it would just be us that gets involved in that from the outside. Even if we didn't want to be, we'd be pulled into something like that.

The Iranian theocracy is bad, but not nearly as bad as Saudi Wahhabism. And, unlike their government, the Iranian people are far more secular and sophisticated; and are about to dump their theocratic government at the first chance they get.

Therefore...if it were up to me, and I was going to choose sides, I'd DUMP the f-ing Saudis, and BACK IRAN. If it's a matter of oil, I'd gladly take Iranian oil over Saudi oil.

The only reason we are at odds with Iran is because we decided to align with the Saudi's because of their oil. When we did that we aligned with Iran's enemy and so we generally don't get along because we chose a side. If it were not for all the oil we would probably be more inclined to align with Iran who are more reasonable than the Saudi's.

I can't think of a single, solitary reason the USA would align themselves with the Saudis EXCEPT oil. And for the last 50 years people have been talking about developing alternative energy sources as a way of getting OUT of that Faustian bargain. I just wish they'd stop talking and DO it.

He got some landmark energy legislation passed which, if it had remained in force, would have led to a much different and better energy picture today.

Unfortunately, once Ronald "Trees-cause-pollution" Reagan got into office, he scuttled Carter's visionary plan, even going so far as to remove Carter's solar panels from the White House.

Also remembered when Carter got reamed out by whiny conservatives who refused to turn their thermostats down by two degrees, even if it meant lowering dependence on foreign oil by millions of barrels per year. Amazing...

I've seen stats for years showing mosque attendance rates in Iran are the lowest in the Islamic world. Some say as low as 2% attend Friday prayers, much lower than our church attendance rates.

The Persians can be reasoned with. These Wahhabis are hopeless.

He (and anybody else with half a brain) knows that Iran will be a secular, pro-western democracy in ten years; while Saudi Arabia will still be funding madrasas in Pakistan that teach Pakistani boys to want to destroy America. Also, it was the Saudis who originally stirred up the shit in Syria, when Assad refused to go along with their plan to build a Saudi oil pipeline through Syria to Europe. The Saudis started funding rebels to overthrow him.

My old landlady was an Iranian expat. She and her husband were two of the nicest people. No religious symbols in their house, either.

Wahhabism has done a number on the Arabian Peninsula. They need secular leaders before the oil runs out but that won't happen.

It would snap the Saudis right back into line and the Iranian people would come out in droves to welcome him.
