Ted Cruz on Friday offered an extended "apology" to those offended by his criticism of "New York values," but rather than back down from his controversial comments, he instead slammed the Empire State's "liberal politicians."
Asked by reporters whether he wanted to apologize for saying this week that Donald Trump, his main 2016 rival, "embodies New York values," Cruz turned the tables, laying out a three-minute riff on things for whichhe would rather apologize.
"Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton and Andrew Cuomo and Bill de Blasio have all demanded an apology, and I'm happy to apologize," he told reporters after an event here. "I apologize to the millions of New Yorkers who have been let down by the liberal politicians in that state."
Cruz then proceeded, in detail, to attack Cuomo, the governor of New York, for his disapproval of fracking, the controversial energy extraction process, while also aiming his sights on de Blasio, New York City's mayor, for his policies on taxes, charter schools and policing.
"I apologize to all the cops and the firefighters and 9/11 heroes who had no choice but to stand and turn their backs on Mayor de Blasio because Mayor de Blasio over and over again stands with the looters and the criminals rather than the brave men and women of blue," he said.

(28,273 posts)If it hadn't been for the hard work of Jon Stewart in exposing them and embarrassing them into action, Cruz and his fellow Republicans would still be withholding funds from those cops and firefighters whose health was ruined on 9/11. We need lawsuits challenging Cruz's right to be President, based on his Canadian background. I've seen dog turds with more saving grace and decency than this man.

(14,449 posts)The thing with trump is I don't believe his game. If he is the nominee, you will see the most historic flipper. He is being the way he is for the primary. Hillary is going to hit him hard to especially on social issues where he is very liberal but acting conservative. She'll get him on immigration since he was for citizenship not long ago. Hillaryvwill have a lot to get him on. And trump saying"I was kidding the last six months" won't cut it.

I think he is throwing in a bit of jewish attachment too.

There is a sizable evangelical element in the Iowas Repubs. They were actually the first state to radically go whackadoodle - about 15 years ago.

I also don't believe he's 44. Sorry but I am going rude....he looks 65. I know we aren't supposed to comment on looks but I just have to. Everything about this creep is a lie!
I want to see his grades. Oh and a great debater.....lol. Hardly.

(22,048 posts)Obviously, Senator Cruz was insulting New York liberals and intellectuals. But I believe he was also making an anti-semetic reference in dog-whistle code.
What is it with these Republicans that they think they can insult large swaths of the voting public and then expect the voters to support their campaigns?

(7,908 posts)Cruz and most of the Republican base for which he speaks feel absolutely nothing for the victims of 9-11 and that Cruz feels no genuine remorse for his insult. That's one hallmark of sociopathy -- inability to feel empathy or remorse.
It's why I have excised every 'outed' Republican from my life. I want nothing further to do with them, as they are injurious to one's mental health.
