IMHO, This Election IS NOT Going To be About the Economy

Contrary to the pundits, the election is not going to hinge on the economy, no matter how "bad" it is.

The fact is that through it all, Americans personally like President Obama. They realize that he's done a spectacular job in the areas where he doesn't have to deal with the R Congress. They also realize that the economy has been lousy since bush was in office, and they're willing to give Obama a pass on this, because 1. they know the Rs in Congress have fought Obama every step of the way on the economy, and 2. they know that Romney isn't going to do any better, and 3. because even though job growth isn't as great as it should be, it's still GROWTH, and America will take growth over R-style job loss any day of the week.

If the economy was THE big issue, Obama's popularity numbers would be plummeting, the same way Poppy Bush's numbers crashed in 92. They're not.

The MSM is trying their best to make this a horse race by playing up Obama's negatives while giving Romney a relative pass, but one need look only at the way the Electoral College vote is shaping up to see that Romney has an almost impossible task in front of him to close Obama's commanding EC lead. The national polls mean nothing, because they don't reflect what's going to happen state-by-state in the EC.

Finally, no matter what the polls say, no matter how much money the super pacs spend, no matter what the MSM spins, Obama's ace-in-the-hole will be the debates, where he is very strong, and where he'll be able to confront Romney's lies directly to his face, while at the same time making the case for all he has accomplished in his first term.

This doesn't mean that anyone can relax, but it does mean that people should be tracking that which matters in the end, not whatever pre-packaged diversion the too-lazy-to-care MSM is humping at any given time.

...him and wait till the word gets out that rMoney wants to do the same thing as Bush did with the economy...those numbers will be static.

Someone on NPR got it right the other day; Obama's job is to disqualify rMoney as a horrible manager of economies and all he has to do is show his record at Bain Private Equity and his record in Mass which rMoney will lose.

The electoral college doesn't go in rMoneys favor either....

OH?!? rMoney isn't trending to good in OH or Fl right now, he's not gaining ground and FL can only cage so many minorities

Hell, they'd try to convince people that Pee-Wee Herman would make a dangerous opponent to Mike Tyson.

3. Of course it's going to be about the economy

It's always about the economy. Show me one president or party in the past 100 years who's won reelection in a severe economic downturn.

The majority of people always - always - vote based on their pocketbooks first. They care about "issues" only after they feel fianacially secure.

This is why I've been upset with Obama's economic team from the beginning. He brought in more of the very people that created the problems in the first place. What's going on now with the economy was inevitable once they refused to address or even acknowledge the real underlining problems.

I really hope I'm wrong and you're right, but I doubt it.

first unscripted moment of the debates and Romney is toast (if he's not already).

The most dangerous opponent would have been Huckabee b/c he could sell Leviticus by mixing it with First Corinthians. And there's a sucker born every minute.

The media is paid very well to create the idea that people like Romney.

The steal the election.

The media covers up the fraud.

Americans are screwed, poor people can die, Fascism is complete.

What has been done to assure that our votes are counted accurately?

They get away with it every time, why would they stop.

(and yes I know they let Obama win, but it should be clear by now why...they just wanted someone to blame all of their wars and looting on)

People like the president personally, that's true, but they've been confused at best and frustrated at worst by his policies. This is largely due to the weak economy which has remained down throughout his presidency. While it may not be his fault personally, when people are hurting they are inclined to make a change. What's sad is people have such short memories that they don't realize that Romney advocates the very policies which caused the economic collapse in the first place. Look at how quickly they all rushed back to the Republicans in 2010 just two years after throwing them out on their ear for the disaster they created. The tea party's rhetoric resonated in people's ears.

We had hoped (and perhaps even expected) the economy to be in a strong again (or at least significantly better) by the time the 2012 campaign rolled around, but it simply has not. Today's unemployment figures have confirmed it.

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2012/06/01/black_friday_has_time_run_out_for_obama_114359-2.html

According to this article, nearly half of those unemployed have been or will be out of work for more SIX (6) MONTHS. Those kind of numbers would stress anybody out.
